alt-J Lyrics

She may contain the urge to run away
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Citrezene your fever's gripped me again
Never kisses all you ever send are fullstops, la la la la

Do you know where the wilds things go
They go along to take your honey,la la la la
Break down now weep build up breakfast now
Let's eat my love my love love love, la la la la

Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah

Do you know where the wild things go
They go along to take your honey, la la la la
Break down let's sleep build up breakfast now
Let's eat my love my love love love, la la la la

She bruises coughs she splutters pistol shots
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
She's morphine queen of my vaccine my love my love love love, la la la la

Muscle to muscle and toe to toe
The fear has gripped me but here I go
My heart sinks as I jump up
Your hand grips hand as my eyes shut
And ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah
Ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah, ahhh ahhh ahhh ah ah

She may contain the urge to runaway
But hold her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks
Germaline disinfect the scene my love my love love love
But please don't go I love you so my lovely
Please don't go, please don't go, I love you so, I love you so
Please don't go, please don't go, I love you so, I love you so
Please break my heart, hey

Please don't go, please don't go, I love you so, I love you so
Please don't go, please don't go, I love you so, I love you so
Please break my heart, ah ha

Please don't go, I'll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you, so I love you so

Please don't go I'll eat you whole
I love you so, I love you so, I love you so, I love you so

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Alt-J's "Breezeblocks" paint a picture of a troubled relationship where the singer is struggling with controlling their partner's urge to run away. They describe holding her down with soggy clothes and breezeblocks, a reference to using weights to anchor something or someone down. The lyrics also reference a fever, morphine, and vaccine, indicating that the partner may be sick, possibly from addiction or mental illness. The chorus repeats the question, "Do you know where the wild things go?", suggesting that the singer and their partner are like wild things, unpredictable and untamed. The singer seems to be holding onto their love for their partner despite the difficulties, pleading with them not to go and expressing their willingness to devour them whole.

The song's lyrics have been interpreted in a few different ways. Some see it as a commentary on abusive relationships, where the singer is holding their partner down against their will. Others see it as a metaphor for the struggle of addiction, with the "soggy clothes and breezeblocks" representing the weight of the addiction that is holding the singer's partner down. The repeated question about where the wild things go could represent the unpredictability and uncontrollability of addiction.

Running through comments I would say that to better understand the story of the video you may need to watch it reversed.
Some people even after the end of the video thought the man was the abductor/agitator for various reasons such as his casual attitude and knowing exactly where the woman was tied up; however, if you watch it chronologically you see he walked in casual, tossed his keys on the counter, went to hang up his coat, hears something, drops his coat in a panic as he pulls back the counter to find his wife.
The proof that it is his wife is that she is wearing a ring, he is wearing a ring, and the other woman is not (they make a point to show everyone's ring finger).
While i would like to defend the guy, they did make a point to show everyone's ring finger. From a filmmaking/storytelling perspective this indicates to me that this was indeed a jilted lover out to make the married man suffer.

Pure Theory: (referring to the cast as Husband/Wife/Other Woman.

The other woman came to the house for the Husband. Meets the wife and in a jealous fit ties her up, planning to drown the wife in the tub as a suicide. this would leave the man heart broken, and all hers. As the bath is filling the other woman hears the door, and the husband tossing his keys. The other woman grabs a knife, and when she sees the Husband comforting the Wife, the Other Woman goes into a rage. A fight ensues ending when the man finally knocks the other woman out, and into the tub. He sets the breeze block he used on her chest. He weeps knowing this is all his fault as The other woman drowns.

The irony is two fold. The Husband likely broke it off with her to save his marriage, and this will ultimately end his marriage. Meanwhile, the other woman was killed in the same manner in which she had planned to murder the wife.
