Kammuri is considered one of the leading figures in the subgenres of neo-enka, J-Enka, and action enka, which his song "Honoo" (「炎」) is considered a prime example of. Kammuri released his first single, "Inochi Hitotsu" (「命ひとつ」) in 1967. In 2009, Kammuri was appointed sightseeing ambassador of the city of Chichibu together with fellow artists Masaru Sakurai (桜井賢) of The Alfee and Tatsuya Fujiwara (藤原達也).
