September 3, 1989 in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, South Korea) is a South Korean singer, dancer and musical actor from Seoul signed under Cube Entertainment. He is a solo artist and one-half of the award-winning co-ed sub-unit, Trouble Maker, with 현아 (Hyuna). He formerly served as the lead vocalist and lead dancer in Korean group, B2ST, from their debut to April 19, 2016 before leaving. In addition to winning four Daesang awards from 2011-2012 with B2ST, he also has six number one Gaon (Korea’s official chart) singles under his name, four under his main group and two with Trouble Maker.
Hyunseung is the oldest child and he has a sister named Geurim. His father passed away on September 20, 2012 from a heart attack. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Music at Dongshin University under a full scholarship in 2014.
Hyunseung is also well-known for his participation in a documentary that resulted in the creation of K-pop super group, Big Bang. He was a trainee from 15 -17 years old at YG Entertainment and was one of the finalists in contention to join the group. He did not make the final cut. However, his involvement with YG led to meeting future groupmate, 양요섭 (Yang Yoseob), who later convinced him to audition and join their future agency, Cube Entertainment. Hyunseung and Yoseob would later go on to become BEAST after two years of training.
In December 2011, Hyunseung formed a unit with labelmate 4minute's Hyuna called Trouble Maker. Trouble Maker debuted with their self-named lead single and mini album "Trouble Maker". On October 28, the group released the single "내일은 없어 (Now)" from their EP "Chemistry". Both singles topped the Gaon chart in 2011 and 2013 respectively.
In addition to his work with B2ST and Trouble Maker, he is also a musical actor, performing at the Sejong Center as the main character of Mozart in the musical, Mozart!, in 2012. He also participated in a digital single, “일년전에” with Apink’s Kim Nam Joo and Jung Eun Ji in 2013. He was also one of the lead actors for the musical, Bonnie and Clyde, in 2014 playing Clyde Barrow.
In May 2014, Hyunseung made his debut as a solo artist with an EP entitled "MY", released on May 5, 2014 with "니가 처음이야 (feat. 기리보이)" as the title track.
