Possessor of a voice, described by some as "unusually beautiful" is an icon in the musical evocation of romantic Havana 1930. Because of his unique style of singing danzón, Barbarito Diez was given the title "La Voz de Oro del Danzon. " (Golden Voice of Danzon).
He spent his childhood in Central Manatí and in the late 1920's he moved to Havana to become part of Graciano Gomez' musical group.
In 1935, he formed part of the Antonio Maria Romeu Orchestra as a voice soloist, being a Danzones, Sones and Boleros interpreter for more than five decades. With this orchestra, Diez was accompanied at shows and recording sessions, even after Romeo's death, until the eighties.
Alongside his work in the orchestra Romeu, founded the Select Quartet, with whom he conducted performances of the bohemian cabaret of Havana in the forties.
Towards the end of his career, he decided to disband the orchestra that accompanied him in his later years, due to personal friction among musicians. Barbarito Diez died in Havana on May 6, 1995 as a result of diabetes mellitus.

Quien compuso esta cancion (La Sitiera) originalmente? Porque veo muchos nombres como compositores, pero ningunos pueden haberlo compuesto, como son mucho mas recientes que Barbarito, y me acuerdo de esta cancion desde nina en los 50's. Ademas que el nombre del album "Asi Bailaba Cuba" suggiere que son canciones todavia mas ancianas. Sabe alguien cuando se compuso y por quien?
