I Surrender Dear
Bing Crosby Lyrics

Pride, sad, splendid liar,
Sworn enemy of love
Kept my lips from saying
Things I was thinking of.
But now my pride you've humbled,
I've cast it to the winds,
Broken, beaten, sick at heart
My confession begins.

We've played the game of stay away
But it cost more that I can pay.
Without you I can't make my way,
I surrender, dear.

I may seem proud, I may act gay,
It's just a pose, I'm not that way,
'Cause deep down in my heart I say
I surrender, dear.

Little mean things we were doing
Must have been part of the game,
Lending a spice to the wooing,
But I don't care who's to blame.
When stars appear and shadows fall,
Why then you'll hear My poor heart call,
To you my love, my life, my all
I surrender, dear.

We've played the game of stay away
But it cost more that I can pay.
Without you I can't make my way,
I surrender, dear.

I may seem proud, I may act gay,
It's just a pose, I'm not that way,
'Cause deep down in my heart I say
I surrender, dear.

Little mean things we were doing
Must have been part of the game,
Lending a spice to the wooing,
But I don't care who's to blame.
When stars appear And shadows fall,
Why then you'll hear My poor heart call,
To you my love, my life, my all

I can just see all the great stars dancing to this at the Grove. Wonderful tune, lovely lyrics, and so nicely done- a great representation of that "wonderful" decade, the 1930's . despite the crushing depression, the decade I've always thought was the most incredible for music, movies, invention, classic and classy people, when there was such a thing as class. Seems rare now. Thnaks for posting this.

It's strange to think that these people had to go through famine, poverty and pain; yet they were the most sophisticated in society and most well-mannered.

Bing Crosby is the one and only person who can sing with such feeling and emotion. His music is more entertaining than any of the " music " that is played in this day and age. Honestly I don't know about this world anymore

Peter Taylor

Unfortunately, he isn't here any more, so it's was and not is.

I love this version even more than the more majestic and contemplative 1939 recording. Thank you so much for posting this!

GREATEST composition-the stopping trumpets right before saying "I surrender" The sweet vibes and violins-so veautiful, just klazzy...klazzy.....

Wonderful syncopated rhythms in the Arnheim orchestra's rendition of I Surrender Dear.

This is a great song . I like the jazzy sound to it. It all comes together well.
