It is their first full-length album to feature live drumming; the band's previous releases (excluding the split Triunity) had featured programmed drums. It is also the third release in the band's Memoria vetusta series, which is significantly more melodic than the band's usual fare. Memoria vetusta is a Latin phrase meaning The Ancient Memory.
All of the song titles except "Prelude" and "The Metaphor of the Moon" are derived from foreign languages. Rough translations:
Païen - French for pagan.
Tellus mater - Latin for Mother Earth.
Forhist - Frankish for forest.
Henosis - Ancient Greek term (ἕνωσις in the Greek alphabet) meaning union.
Clarissima mundi lumina - Latin for The Brightest Lights of the World.
