Bobby Darin (May 14, 1936 - December 20, 1973, Bronx NY.) was born Walden Robert Cassotto and was one of the most popular rock and roll American teen idols of the late 1950s. However, he is widely respected for being a multi-talented, versatile performer.

Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. Darin was a very special and talented entertainer. He was a Grammy award winning singer ('Mack The Knife'), a respected member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ('Dream Lover', 'Splish Splash', 'If I Were A Carpenter') a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, a successful record producer, an Oscar nominated actor and a strong supporter of the American Heart Association. Bobby was married to actress Sandra Dee from 1960-1967. They had one son, Dodd, born in December 1961. As a result of complications from a rheumatic heart, Bobby's life was tragically cut short in 1973.

Darin's mother, Vanina Cassotto, had given birth to him when she was 16, and as a result, her parents raised Darin as though he were there son while Vanina was presented off as his elder sister. Darin did not learn the truth about his parentage until he was 32.

I am watching Bobby Darin sing If I Were A Carpenter and tears are streaming down my cheek. He was a family friend and when he would visit, we would do cabaret type songs. How sad. To me, a 10 year old boy, he showed me the art of performing and once told me that life was no different. That was sad from an entertainer who made so many happy-including me. He was an excellent entertainer and friend to me, my mother and grandmother and anyone who knew him even just long enough to see him put on a great show

Like Bobby I had rheumatic fever at the age of 9 (in 1964). Thanks to antibiotics and seven weeks in the hospital, I am now 64 and have only a slight heart murmur that can barely be heard. I wish he could’ve been saved. Miss him so much😢💕

Don't I know it. I play along on my Vietnamese dan tranh and that makes it even sadder. Sometimes it makes me remember to much and I cry while playing. Music should be moving and full of emotion. gina c - I’ve always been the type of man to compliment women about their smile-eyes-clothing-hair ....anything . I enjoyed putting a smile on their faces-I’m still the guy that holds doors open and offers help carrying things and so on but now it’s a dangerous thing to do. I traveled and performed with Bobby for the last years of his life. This clip was from a Summer replacement show on NBC called the Bobby Darin Amusement Company. The finest performer I ever worked with and I've worked with lots.

McGuinn worked with Bobby in the early 1960s when he included a folk segment in his stage show. Later, when Bobby took a hiatus from performing, McGuinn worked for his Brill Building-era songwriting company. McGuinn has been quoted as saying that he learned about old school show business from Bobby, e.g. being on time, hitting your marks, smiling, that sort of stuff. "Vegas Lounge act" is a bit ungracious in my view. Bobby Darin was so much more than that. Everything he did, he did better than anyone else...

The fact that he would pass not long after this performance makes it even more memorable. But if he were alive today, it would still rank among his very best performances, right up there with Mack the Knife in 1970. I watch this performance and I'm so sad for what "might have been" with this man. He was clearly "evolving" as a singer and human being and could have given us so much more. This performance is one of my top 10 all time favorites already and I just watched it tonight for the first time. Lot's of singers have good voices but few can "touch the soul" the way Bobby Darin did in this song. It's the sincerity in the tone of his voice and the lyrics themselves. He touches on something "fundamental" to us all. The desire to be loved and accepted "unconditionally" for "who" we are, not what we've achieved or what we look like. Beautiful!!

It's been almost three and a half years since I first discovered Bobby Darin. My interests change and fade and I forgot about this performance, so revisiting it after all this time and after learning so much more about music is leaving me absolutely speechless. We lost a true, true talent in 1973. I've always thought he was highly underrated. He might have started out as another teen rock and roll icon, but his musicianship was always so much more mature than so many people ever understood.

I fell in love with a waitress in a restaurant outside of Ft. Carson CO when this was still a hit song in 1967. She didn't love me back. Got a "dear john" letter a half a year later when I was in Vietnam. That's okay though. all's well that ends well,

a song can I get any more beautiful than that it just a song can I get any more beautiful than that it just takes your breath away you just sit back there and it makes you think of all of the beautiful things that have happened in your life brings me back to the memories of when I was younger when I first grew up and I fell in love when I first found my real friends that I hung with the best times that I ever had in my life realizing that my mom was my best friend in life and I took care of her for the rest of my life until the day she died knowing that I love my sister everything just revolves around that and takes you back in time and makes you appreciate life more

A ride to my barbershop chorus every week with a man 88 years old who told me that he installed the sound system in Bobby Darren’s home. My brush with greatness!

Darin was a class act, as he demonstrates by acknowledging Tim Hardin's original version. My all time favorite rendition is the one he did with Stevie Wonder on Kraft Music Hall.

It was like 1966 all over again when he sung this. Bobby's situation was tragic though no fault of his own. He was born with a bad ticker. He was lost far too soon but did leave a huge mark in music and movies for us to see and hear. I think the love of his life was always Sandra Dee and they are now together forever.

I didn’t know about Bobby Darin’s music. Stumbled upon it through YouTube. Now, I have listen to him every night. What a talent! His voice simply carries the song regardless of the orchestration.
