Glad there there is still support here from old school Boston fans. Most would love nothing more than for 'Walk On' to fall off the radar, but I'm here to tell you folks that it SHOULD be hailed as a worthy addition to the same classic rock pantheon as the self-titled debut and 'Don't Look Back'. If you like those albums but can't wrap your head around this one, you need to have your ears checked. Just sayin', folks. :)

I love this album. Sure Delp is missing, but the vocalists do a great job. It retains the Boston sound. I love the first tracks power, Living for You is a great ballad, and Walk On is a great jam. This is an album that still makes my rotation often.

A lot of people think that Walk On isn't a very good album, and I have to say I agree with them... but THIS SONG is a piece of genius. It's ridiculous to throw the baby out with the bathwater - anyone who overlooks this classic song because it was released on an otherwise average album is making a big mistake. Some songs make an album worth owning simply by being on it, and this is one of them.

I'm 57 and (like you) are an old school Boston fan. THIS album has always been one of my faves that's flown under the radar. I see them every time they hit the Indy area. Saw them last in '15 and '17. I get a kick out of every time they play tracks off this album and the rest of the crowd sits down looking confused. The Walk On medley is something to behold for those who love great Boston guitar rock.

This is actually the Boston album that I find myself listening to most often. Every song is amazing here. I remember I was in college in 1994 when I first popped the CD in my car on the way home from the record store. At first I was initially disappointed when the voice I heard wasn't Brad (I had no idea he wasn't on this album. We couldn't look those things up as easily as we can today.) However, by the time I heard Fran belt out the first chorus of this song I remember thinking, "Wow. Well whoever this guy is, he's really good." I was completely sold after the harmonies in the second chrous. Then I found that every single track on the album was a home run.

I remember the first time I heard this song. I was at Best Buy... back when they had headphones to "preview" selected CDs. Being a long time Boston fan, I didn't know exactly what to expect.... The blend of Tom's guitar and Cosmo's smooth vocals blew me away.

Saw them in 1995 or there abouts. It was a small arena in Omaha. Brad Delp and Tom Scholz were in top form! Scholz was just an absolute master with his instruments. Easily one of the best concerts I've been to!

Yeah some "classic rock" is accepted as true metal (sabbath, dio, rainbow), some proto metal (zep, purple, blue cheer) but less commonly acknowledged are later hard rock bands that veer in that direction. Thin lizzy is "hard rock" and maiden "metal" but their sounds are really close in some ways. Boston, boc and Journey fit in that area too, but their image, content, fanbase don't so it's kind of obscured.

I second that. Boston at times showed signs of being Power Metal, but never quite got to being a 100% Power Metal band. Can you imagine Boston being a Power Metal band like Helloween, GammaRay, or EdGuy?

I owned the "Walk On" CD for several months before I actually knew it was a Boston album! My room-mate at university gave me a box of his old CDs, several of them without cases - including this one. It was so badly scratched that only a couple of songs played properly, but fortunately this was one of them.

This was in 1998. CDs weren't immediately recognised by computers when you inserted them in those days... and I didn't own a computer anyway! I knew "More Than A Feeling" but no other Boston songs at the time, and even though now this song is instantly recognisable as a Boston album opener, it wasn't to me then. Still, I found out eventually.

My opinion hasn't changed in 17 years. "Walk On" is an OK album, but "I Need Your Love" is a glorious, timeless classic - probably one of the top three songs Boston ever recorded.

Walk On is a so-so album, in my opinion - but this song is a masterpiece. Incredible dynamics, melodies, musicianship, vocals, key changes. Honestly, I think it's the best Boston song since More Than A Feeling.

Hi Mark. Yes, the spelling of our last name is quite unique. More popular is Engle, than Engel.
I live in the USA, but my family has German roots. However, Engel was not our original name. Long story short, my great grandfather was Italian, and my great grandmother was german. His last name was Gangarelli, or something like that. He moved to America and wanted to change his last name. When he met my German great grandmother, she took the letters from Gangarelli and spelled " Engel", because it meant angel in German. Isn't that a funny story? That story is only a family myth however, so I don't know how true it is. Regardless, Engel is a very uncommon last name.

This album consistently rocks as hard or harder than any Boston album. Walk On is like Third Stage on steroids. Very similar in writing and performances, but just more meat (sorry for animal reference), potatoes, and chock full of crunchy rock goodness. Strange thing about this album is the louder it's played, the more guitars seem to appear in that orgy of Rockman sound. Two nits to pick: Brad should have agree to sing on this. I can't believe his schedule with RTZ would preclude him from spending a couple of weeks with Tom (I'm sure there were other reasons). The second is those God awful "drums". I could have done better with a Casio keyboard. Lastly, I'm not really into lyrics - it's the music that moves me - but some of these tracks are so good they demand better lyrics, particularly Surrender To Me and What's Your Name.

I hope some day DeCarlo gets to re-record this album along with a real drum track.

Tom saw a chance to get back at Barry Goudreau (Delps brother in law) after the lawsuit in 1980 hence why Fran Cosmo was included. As far as teh drum machines, it's anyones guess but in a recent interview Tom said it's easier to lay them down.

I saw Boston when their second album came out...the guy playing before them was Sammy Hagar.. it was general admission. I remember a bald 50 something guy with a Boston shirt on standing and cheering..now I'm 59 and can see what he heard to be great rock.TIMELESS!

I never listened to any Boston after Third Stage. Until now. I was curious what they sounded like at "this" stage, with no Brad. Its very weird. The instrumentation is reminiscent of some Scorpions and the vocals are maybe some Skid Row.
Not a bad song, actually, but it doesn't sound "Boston-y" because Brad was as much a part of that classic sound as Tom was.
It would be like listening to Rush with no Geddy, Queen with no Freddie, Iron Maiden with no Bruce. You can appreciate it in isolation, but less so as a representation of those bands' well known sound.

I'm sorry guys, I got respect for Boston and their place in history, but musically and band wise, this is far and away their most mature and consistent album, I find Cosmo a far better vocalist then Delp, I actually found Delp light years better singing for RTZ, from the moment Scholz guitar kicks in on this song, you know it's a Boston track, only this ups the ante, every song on this disc is killer, my opinion it's just a far superior album, from the production, to the writing, to the talent, but what do I know?

twistedwish20: Boston live Madison Square Garden. I was only 16 years old. Im 49 now. The memories of that concert stick with me to this day. And i've been to literally a1000 plus shows now. The sound was so full and unreal for those days. I cant put into words what they were like then and even now (post brad delp).

was supposed to see them in Feb.'78 and a ice storm cancelled the show and I never got to see 1 of my alltime favorite bands. i still have the memories of cruisin' the local strip, windows down, Boston on the cassette player, 6x9 Jensen Tri-Axe speakers and a 7 band equalizer/booster, we didnt know what a woofer was, and a amp was what you plugged your guitar into, preferably a Marshall stack
