My Prerogative
Britney Spears Lyrics
People can take everything away from you
But they can never take away your truth
But the question is, can you handle mine?
They say I'm crazy
I really don't care
That's my prerogative
They say I'm nasty
But I don't give a damn
Getting boys is how I live
Some ask me questions
Why am I so real?
But they don't understand me
I really don't know the deal
About my sister
Trying hard to make it right
Not long ago
Before I won this fight
Everybody's talking all this stuff about me
Why don't they just let me live?
(Tell me why)
I don't need permission, make my own decisions
(Oh)
That's my prerogative
(That's my prerogative)
It's my prerogative
It's the way that I wanna live
(It's my prerogative)
But you can't tell me what to do
Don't get me wrong
I'm really not souped
Ego trips is not my thing
All these strange relationships
Really gets me down
I see nothing wrong
Spreadin' myself around
Everybody's talking all this stuff about me
Why don't they just let me live?
(Tell me why)
I don't need permission, make my own decisions
(Oh)
That's my prerogative
(That's my prerogative)
Everybody's talking all this stuff about me
Why don't they just let me live?
(Tell me why)
I don't need permission, make my own decisions
(Oh)
That's my prerogative
(That's my prerogative)
It's the way that I wanna live
(It's my prerogative)
But you can't tell me what to do
Why can't I live my life
Without all of the things
That people say?
Oh
(Oh)
Everybody's talking all this stuff about me
Why don't they just let me live?
(Tell me why)
I don't need permission, make my own decisions
(Oh)
That's my prerogative
(They said I'm crazy)
Everybody's talking all this stuff about me
Why don't they just let me live?
(Tell me why)
(They say I'm nasty)
I don't need permission, make my own decisions
(Oh)
That's my prerogative
(That's my prerogative)

@Jon Void 2007-2011 were still massive for Britney.
Blackout while not being incredibly massive sales wise, is still considered one of the most influential pop albums of all time.
Circus gave Britney another #1 on the billboard hot 100, while the album also debuted at #1. Even songs that weren't single hit the charts at around 80 on the billboard. The Singles collection also had 3, which again, have her another #1 on the billboard hot 100. Not to mention she had a very successful tour going on at the time.
Femme Fatale had a #1 on the billboard hot 100, and the album also hit #1. At this point Britney was still a household name lol. Again, Britney had another successful tour at the time.
Britney Jean fucked her career up, nothing before that really changed anything. Scream and Shout was still wildly successful during this time period and even the Piece of Me tour and her residency were still making a shit ton of money. She just kinda faded out from there
Edit: not to mention around 2008/2009, the way people and the media saw Britney started to change. Oh and she technically had another #1 single with Rihanna if you include the S&M remix which contributed to 1/3 of the total streams.

So sad that this isn’t just a fun song for her but a literal foreshadowing of her current life. Hope she gets to live freely once again.
Prossi
she seems very happy with her new bf

@YouDon'tNeedToKnow We know it 🔪
YouDon'tNeedToKnow
It's a cover of a Bobby Brown song
Esmerelda 2548
@Flyguy4500 well for everyone I know, the teen years were not their best unless they didn't plan well. Just saying based on my experience and experiences of those I know.
Flyguy4500
@Esmerelda 2548 I disagree, they can have a good future while still enjoying the teen years more. Just because one section of life might be regarded as their best doesn’t mean the rest is bad.

Imagine a live performance of this song after she is finally free!
