For What It's Worth
by Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's s time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Many, many people believe that this song was written for the Vietnam War... but it wasn't. It was describing a street demonstration in Hollywood in 1966 when teenagers were protesting police brutality, cops throwing kids in jail just for being out after 10PM. How do I know that?? BECAUSE I WAS ONE OF THEM.

@Antonio Fongaro Why? He held a gun to a pregnant woman's belly while his friends ransacked a house. He has been in prison several times. He had very high amounts of Meth in his system during time of death. His heart stopped before he stopped breathing. Let that all sink in while over 40 lives have been lost because of this. Overreaction to possible racism is running at a all time high. The reality is he was a a-hole cop. There are many of them, but is he a racist? I haven't heard that. He is and should be in jail for what he did. But it does not correspond equally to what is going on. Racism is at a historic low. Nothing right now compares to what was going on in the 60's. This is all being flamed by the Media and Hollywood/Athletes. We sit here and act like we got it tough. Ok, well go over there to the continent of Africa and live in those poor countries where you are lucky to eat everyday or other day and then tell me we don't live like Kings and Queens in this nation. Give me a break with all of this racism garbage!

Man, someone should write a song about that!

@Lunar
Nothing ever changes.

Well sir you have earned my utmost respect for protesting police brutality, I was just thinking this song really well demonstrates what's going on currently, apparently it does.

@Susan Hinsman and it was written, recorded and on the radio within 4 days of the shooting... Stay safe ✌

Perfect song for today in America..

I see it in a different way. The young people now are no longer speaking their minds but rather, parroting what others tell me. Theyre the new Man. Nobody IS right when they assume everybody is wrong (racist). What happened to coming together? They call the shit in Seattle the Summer of Love. The real one was actually peaceful.

when this song came out there seemed to be a sense that the world was chaotic and out of control by the police states worldwide. Look how far we haven't come
