Conan says, in the video description, that the song is “a tribute to my senior year of high school; for my friends, my town, my homes, and my memories.”

The town is stagnant and the people who inhabit it always feel the need to escape to find something more, something different. The beginning of the song focuses on the fact that the town will never change, and even though people come and go, it remains the same. The town's roads speed the people on to far off places during their doubting days. The people don't even know each other's names; they all have the same goal to leave and not stay.
The second verse talks about people creating their own fun within the static environment of the town. They invent their games and watch the sunrise when curfew is at midnight. Springtime, when the air is thin, changes people's moods, and they become restless. The song later talks about people slowly but surely progressing, going from first gear to seventh gear, and finally, they are breathing in the atmosphere. At the end of the day, the song focuses on people realizing that the idle town will remain the same, but they will all be okay, as everyone they love is in this place.
