Deserted Cities Of The Heart
Cream Lyrics

Upon this street where time has died.
The golden treat you never tried.
In times of old, in days gone by.
If I could catch your dancing eye.

It was on the way,
On the road to dreams, yeah.
Now my heart's drowned in no love streams, yeah.

The street is cold, its trees are gone.
The story's told the dark has won.
Once we set sail to catch a star.
We had to fail, it was too far.

It was on the way,
On the road to dreams, yeah.
Now my heart's drowned in no love streams, yeah.

I felt the wind shout like a drum.
You said, "My friend, love's end has come."
It couldn't last, had to stop.
You drained it all to the last drop.

It was on the way,
On the road to dreams, yeah.
Now my heart's drowned in no love streams, yeah.

Now my heart's drowned in no love streams, yeah.

On this dark street the sun is black.
The winter life is coming back.
On this dark street it's cold inside.
There's no retreat from time that's died.

It was on the way,
On the road to dreams.
Now my heart's drowned in no love streams,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Now my heart's drowned in no love streams, yeah.
Now my heart's drowned in no love.

An Intense Song. Cream Rules Man!!!

booblaroo

Not to mention the guitar solo preceding it. Did Eric ever rock the whammy bar more on a song? Cippolinaesque (who he'd likely heard prior to this recording)

Roy Jones

@Andy Krankus That cello and viola bridge is one of the best moments in a great song.

@Andy Krankus I also like the way he dropped a beat on the third line of every verse in this song. That doesn't happen much in R&R.

Jack Bruce, one of the greatest voices ever in rock and roll. There'll never be another one like him.

Three minutes, 38 seconds of pure, unadulterated kick-ass.

Average song by Cream which is good; might seem to kick ass but it's pretty generic. Jack gets his due, Clapton plays his best guitar with Cream. Good thing Jack was there to write better songs because Clapton is not great shakes at writing. Who cares how fast he plays guitar? He lacks soul like Neil Young who may be a far lesser guitar man but he has something most great guitarist lack : great lyrics and melodies. OK I guess it's just that blues are not really my thing.
