Playing the Angel is the eleventh full-length album by Depeche Mode and was released 17 October 2005. It was supported by the Touring the Angel tour. The album has been called a more organic record for using more analog synths than digital ones. In addition, most of the soundscapes presented are harsher and groovier than the more mellow Exciter.

A Pain That I'm Used To
Depeche Mode Lyrics
I'm not sure what I'm looking for anymore
I just know that I'm harder to console
I don't see who I'm trying to be instead of me
But the key is a question of control
Can you say what you're trying to play anyway
I just pay while you're breaking all the rules
All the signs that I find have been underlined
Devils thrive on the drive that is fueled
[Chorus]
All this running around, well it's getting me down
Just give me a pain that I'm used to
I don't need to believe all the dreams you conceive
You just need to achieve something that rings true
There's a hole in your soul like an animal
With no conscience, repentance, oh no
Close your eyes, pay the price for your paradise
Devils feed on the seeds of the soul
I can't conceal what I feel, what I know is real
No mistaking the faking, I care
With a prayer in the air I will leave it there
On a note full of hope not despair
[Chorus: x2]

The mix for the video is very different to the one on album. Is this single mix? I can't find it anywhere!

@Pelger they usually release an album of "Singles" every 10 - 20 years that is theat single versions. I have one that is a 3 CD set, but is at least 20 years old by now. Worth a look!

I think "strangelove" "in your room" and "useless" are better in their single or video versions, I don't know why the album versions are different, they should use the same version for everything, it drives me insane to know that if you love a song and buy the cd, maybe you are not getting the exact one you love.

@Sgt. Smith I haven't heard the remix of Behind the Wheel. It's such a good track, it would be a shame to spoil it. :(
Sgt. Smith
@blackpeter70 I actually like polished "In your room" better... unlike "Behind the wheel"... My god, in my opinion, new version is just... I don't know what to say, it ain't awful, but it's... not that bad, but still worse than the original.
blackpeter70
Yeah. They usually give their songs a polish when they release them as singles, sometimes it's better (Useless), sometimes not (In Your Room).

I get older, they get older, but there music will never gets old.
