Having returned to his own studio, he released this CD in 2008, building on the many things he learned about arranging and producing from having been around industry professionals. The album represents a leap forward from the self-produced tunes which were released before Front Door Key, in terms of sound quality, arrangements, and musical maturity.
The album has a slightly rougher sound than its predecessor, mainly because of Doc Jazz's stronger presence on the electric guitar, giving it a somewhat rockier flavor. Again, quite a few of the songs have a political message, but as is typical of the music of Doc Jazz, these messages are presented in a wrapping of funky and somewhat jazzy music with subtle yet groovy rhythms. Another trademark feature of the albums of Doc Jazz is that the political songs are mixed with tunes about lighter subjects within the topics of life and love.
