Sorry You Asked?
Dwight Yoakam Lyrics

You'll be sorry you asked me the reason
That she's not here with me tonight
And I know you were probably just acting polite
But you'll be sorry you ever asked why

We started having problems in August last year
So things have been kinda rough for quite awhile
And you know how you think it'll work itself out
Well mister that thought's wrong by a long, long mile

You'll be sorry you asked me the reason
That she's not here with me tonight
And I know you were probably just acting polite
But you'll be sorry you ever asked why

I mighta, shoulda seen
That we were drifting apart
But I was in what I guess you'd call denial
And I always heard they say that you're the last one to know
Well buddy I was last by a long, long while

You'll be sorry you asked me the reason
That she's not here with me tonight
And I know you were probably just acting polite
But you'll be sorry you ever asked why

Okay we both have the tendency to overreact
So I can't really tell you who's at fault
But there were certain third parties, well her sister for one
Who helped bring our reconciling to a drop-dead halt

You'll be sorry you asked me the reason
That she's not here with me tonight
And I know you were probably just acting polite
But you'll be sorry you ever asked why

Aren't you sorry you ever asked why
I'm sure sorry you ever asked why

Did I tell you how she tried to have me locked out of the house
I had to go hire a lawyer and all
But I know that it was mostly her family's idea
I could hear 'em tell her what to say every time I'd call
You'll be sorry you asked me the reason

This sounds like a Marty Robbins song. I really like the girl in this video.

Sar Toris

Dwight Yoakam saved modern country music.
This video is just fantastic. Harry Dean Stanton and Dwight Yoakam? What more do you want?

Bud Owens

Bo Hopkins is alright too..... everybody wants to be a Pharaoh.

Skelet3n  gee thanks for mentioning garth now i gotta brush me teeth again tonight, maybe drink a few margaritas too, i gotta agree with all the good about dwight except the underrated, maybe i just overlook some things, like i barely notice if someone doesn't like me, but he's been a favorite of mine for years, so good, so talented, and so down to earth acting, and such a friend to Buck who we all loved.

vernon turner

Yeah. Duh.

You are correct in you assessment of the state of country music since the early 1990's. Musicians like Yoakam, The Derailers, BR5-49, Southern Pacific, Foster and Loyd, Desert Rose Band, and even to an extant Clint Black were pushed aside with the Garth Brooks mania and the watered down crap that is top 40 "Country" radio today. The mid 80's to early 90's had so many good new bands and established artists that were releasing great music at the time, then by 1994 or so it was all Nashville crapola all over again just like the late 60's- The time when Willie, Waylon, Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Jerry Jeff Walker and the rest of the Texas connection went outlaw with the cowboy/hippie movement of the early 70's that helped save Nashville from itself for another 20 years.
