Turn To Stone
Electric Light Orchestra Lyrics

The city streets are empty now
(The lights don't shine no more)
And so the songs are way down low

A sound that flows into my mind
(The echoes of the daylight)
Of everything that is alive
(In my blue world)

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone
I turn to stone, when you comin' home
I can't go on

The dying embers of a night
(A fire that slowly fades 'till dawn)
Still glow upon the wall so bright (turning, turning)

The tired streets that hide away
(From here to everywhere they go)
Roll past my door into the day
In my blue world

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone
I turn to stone, when you comin' home
I can't go on

Turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone

Yes, I'm turnin' to stone
'Cause you ain't coming home
Why ain't you comin' home
If I'm turnin' to stone
You've been gone for so long
And I can't carry on
Yes, I'm turnin', I'm turnin'
I'm turnin' to stone

The dancing shadows on the wall
(The two-step in the hall)
Are all I see since you've been gone (turning, turning)

Through all I sit here and I wait
(I turn to stone, I turn to stone)
You will return again some day
To my blue world

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone
I turn to stone, when you comin' home
I can't go on

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone
Turn to stone, when you comin' home
I can't go on

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone

How can a group with so many hits, so many millions in record sales, so many amazing albums, and so much songwriting and music production genius NOT be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It is incomprehensible, and just flat out wrong!
(edit) - They finally were several yrs after this OP. Glad so many also felt the same. But the fact also remains that they should've been inducted in their first yrs of eligibility in the late 90's. 20 odd yrs late, total bullshit!

@Ga Guy and Dave Edmunds, who is a phenomenal artist in his own right, said that no matter what Jeff writes, it always ends up in a BIG way. He did a few songs with Edmunds and they're on the Anthology and they were huge hits. Jeff is a musical genius... PERIOD.

It's ALL about the people who run it... THEY put in who THEY want. If they don't like a band that much, the band doesn't get in when they should OR the band gets in way, way, way down the road... Very unfortunate...

I find it more shocking that so many people don't know about ELO. Although they always know some of the songs when you play them.
