Turn to Stone
Electric Light Orchestra Lyrics

The city streets are empty now
(The lights don't shine no more)
And so the songs are way down low

A sound that flows into my mind
(The echoes of the daylight)
Of everything that is alive
(In my blue world)

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone
I turn to stone, when you comin' home
I can't go on

The dying embers of a night
(A fire that slowly fades 'till dawn)
Still glow upon the wall so bright (turning, turning)

The tired streets that hide away
(From here to everywhere they go)
Roll past my door into the day
In my blue world

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone
I turn to stone, when you comin' home
I can't go on

Turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone

Yes, I'm turnin' to stone
'Cause you ain't coming home
Why ain't you comin' home
If I'm turnin' to stone
You've been gone for so long
And I can't carry on
Yes, I'm turnin', I'm turnin'
I'm turnin' to stone

The dancing shadows on the wall
(The two-step in the hall)
Are all I see since you've been gone (turning, turning)

Through all I sit here and I wait
(I turn to stone, I turn to stone)
You will return again some day
To my blue world

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone
I turn to stone, when you comin' home
I can't go on

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone
Turn to stone, when you comin' home
I can't go on

I turn to stone when you are gone
I turn to stone

How can a group with so many hits, so many millions in record sales, so many amazing albums, and so much songwriting and music production genius NOT be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? It is incomprehensible, and just flat out wrong!
(edit) - They finally were several yrs after this OP. Glad so many also felt the same. But the fact also remains that they should've been inducted in their first yrs of eligibility in the late 90's. 20 odd yrs late, total bullshit!

Robert Steffes

They won't let Barry Bonds in either.

Kimmo Laitinen

when ur doing ur own things u dont really matter others? My opinion is that this group was part of "i want to be famous" and part "i don´t give a F anymore"

Gaetano Green

It's like anything else. Politics! Someone didn't like something and cancelled them out.
In my opinion they are without a doubt the BEST ever.

Boge

Rock and roll hall of fame became politicized. Many legends belong on there that aren’t and many are on that list that don’t belong.

catfree

@Nerdtendo They're too good for a gimmicky hall of fame
It's like how most people are better off not winning an oscar

I thought this song was more late 80 to the 90s. I didn't realize it was a 70s song until I just Googled it. Fantastic song

rumo

It has that unmistakably disco string arrangement
