Tiny Dancer
Elton John Lyrics

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must've seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Jesus freaks out in the street
Handing tickets out for God
Turning back, she just laughs
The boulevard is not that bad
Piano man, he makes his stand
In the auditorium
Looking on, she sings the songs
The words she knows, the tune she hums

But oh, how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you, and you can hear me
When I say softly, slowly

Hold me closer, tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today
Hold me closer, tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must've seen her dancing in the sand
Now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Oh, how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you, and you can hear me
When I say softly, slowly

Hold me closer, tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today
Hold me closer, tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

"Tiny Dancer' was suggested to have been written about Bernie Taupin's girlfriend Maxine Feibelmann, who later became his wife. The lyric "blue jean baby, LA Lady, seamstress for the band" was a nod to Maxine as she'd regular tour with Elton and his band, sewing together costumes and fixing clothes when required.Aug 26, 2022"

The Story of... 'Tiny Dancer' by Elton John - Smooth radio

I saw Elton perform this song in Baton Rouge, LA in 1972. The front act finished up and left the stage and then the entire auditorium went black and complete silence for about two or three minutes. Suddenly a pin point spotlight lit up Elton at his Grand Piano with an 8X10 portrait on the piano. All what we could see was Elton at his piano and he sang this song. It was the most mesmerizing thing that I have ever seen. Just Elton, with his voice and piano was more powerful than any 5 piece rock band that I have ever seen.

Elton is is "Timeless". Elton has never tried to follow the current trends in music, he has always done his own thing, no matter what anyone else did. Let's not forget that the lyrics provided by Bernie Taupin lent a very special aspect to his music.
Between the two of them, there was truly, Musical Genius.

"I always knew I was the 'seamstress for the band': Maxine Taupin reveals moment she realized Tiny Dancer was written about her as she prepares to auction off handwritten lyrics to Elton John songs penned by ex-husband Bernie
Maxine recalled the moment Elton John sung the now iconic lyrics ‘Blue jean baby / L.A lady’ at London’s Trident Studios in 1971
Instantly, she said she knew the song was about her and described the moment as one that would be impossible for her to ever forget
Maxine recounted being at Château d’Hérouville in northwestern France while Taupin and John were working on the album ‘Goodbye Yellow Brick Road’ in 1973
On Monday, 67-year-old Maxine will be auctioning off a series of handwritten lyrics of some of Taupin and John’s most iconic tracks, expected to fetch $1.7M
Lyrics of Candle in the Wind first draft is valued at $258,000

Never knew this video was made - so glad I discovered it. The song is strangely simultaneously somber and jovial and the somehow the video captures that perfectly, with its slice-of- life characters going about their day - some filled with joy, others with pain and heartache.

Bravo. A little cinematic masterpiece.

Undoubtedly, The finest composition ever done by Sir Elton John. Such a Beautiful and Brilliant Song. I've said enough.

Quel personnage ce Elton...tout en douceur et émotion. Je l'ai vu à Paris en juin dernier. Un rêve devenu réalité grâce à mes enfants ❤❤❤❤

50 Years later and it’s still one of the greatest songs of all time
