I'm A Better Man
Engelbert Humperdinck Lyrics
Dance with me, I want to be your partner
Can't you see the music is just starting?
Night is falling, and I am falling
Dance with me
Fantasy could never be so giving
I feel free, I hope that you are willing
Pick the beat up, and kick your feet up
Dance with me
Let it lift you off the ground
Starry eyes, and love is all around us
I can take you where you want to go
Dance with me, I want to be your partner
Can't you see the music is just starting?
Night is falling, and I am falling
Dance with me
Let it lift you off the ground
Starry eyes, and love is all around us
I can take you if you want to go
Dance with me, I want to be your partner
Can't you see the music is just starting?
Night is falling, and I am falling
Dance with me

@Amintas Eduardo HI, I notice that in general, Mr. Bacharach usually gets the acknowledgments, I wanted to give a shout out to Hal David. Yes, Burt Bacharach, is the melody master! Thanks!
Amintas Eduardo
Yes, but we can't forget Bacharat who wrote the melody.

Brings tears to my eyes as I recall my beautiful mom and her love for Engelbert and particularly this wonderful piece....

My Mom had a stack of records accumulated mainly in the 70's, maybe early 80's. But there were a few of the more melancholically romantic balads that really got worn out. - "I'm a better man", "From here to eternity", "Was it too beautiful to last", "Didn't we", I recall topped the list of favorites, in that order.
She wasn't so much into the light-hearted stuff like Quando quando quando, and it seems my taste followed. Saw him live 2 or 3 years back, and guess what. Not a single one of the listed favorites was performed. Not surprising though..

Enge is my mom's all time favorite. I know almost everything he recorded since she bought all of his records.

Probably my favorite Humperdinck song. The sentiments expressed here move me deeply. I just learned from YouTube the music is by Burt Bacharach and the lyrics by Hal David, which brings me to on of my all-time favorite pet peeves. In my opinion, Hal David was the greatest pop lyricists of the second half of the 20th century, and yet Burt Bacharach seems to get all of the praise. Take away the lyrics from any one of the myriad Bacharach hits and essentially all you're left with is a catchy tune. David's lyrics make the song truly memorable. Need proof? I'll give you one example, but you can try this on any of Bacharach's hits. What would "Alfie" be without David's lyrics?
