From the Cradle is a Grammy winning blues cover album by Eric Clapton released in 1994. Per the liner notes, "This is a live recording with no overdubs or edits except for dobro overdub on 'How Long Blues' and drum overdub on 'Motherless Child'." Although long associated with the blues, From the Cradle was Clapton's first attempt at an all-blues album. He would subsequently record Riding with the King with B. B. Blues Before Sunrise
Eric Clapton Lyrics
I have the blues before sunrise,
Tears standing in my eyes.
I have the blues before sunrise,
Tears standing in my eyes.
It was a miserable feeling, now babe,
A feeling I do despise.
I have to leave, leave you baby,
Because you know you done me wrong.
I have to leave you baby,
Because you know you done me wrong.
I'm gonna pack up and leave you darling
And break up my happy home.
I have to leave, leave you baby,
I'm gonna leave you all alone.
I'm gonna leave you baby,
I'm gonna leave you all alone.
I'm gonna pack up and leave you darling
Because you know you done me wrong.
Well now goodbye, goodbye baby,
I'll see you on some rainy day.
Well now goodbye baby,
I'll see you on some rainy day.
You can go ahead now little darling,
'Cause I want you to have your way.

This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the best album EC has produced. Yes, he's played better tracks, yes he's amazing live, but for sheer musical value (tracks you want to play again and again and again.....), this wins. Thanks for uploading :)

In my college Music History class, when we reached the Blues unit, my professor played us this album. This is its first track, and about fifteen seconds in, I was hooked! Up to that moment, my main points of focus were Broadway and Contemporary Acappella. Since that day, while I still love all genres of music, my love of the Blues has influenced nearly everything I've played or written. Epilogue: I recently met Jerry Portnoy...Clapton's harmonica man...and told him this story. When he put out his hand to shake mine...well...the joy is nearly impossible to express.

@Alexander Valentine Thanks! I've been in it for about 25 years now...actively performing on the local scene for more than a decade Now. (Of course, the local scene is TINY, but still...) Again, I'm all over the map genre-wise, but particularly since picking up the harmonica about twelve years ago, Blues seems to influence everything I do, even if it's a totally different genre.

I must have a vinyl of this album. Had this album on CD when it came out and always loved it. Love Clapton and love the Blues too.
