Born December 23, 1978 Canadian singer-songwriter and producer Jenny-Bea Englishman is better known as Esthero.
At the age of sixteen, Esthero moved from small town Harriston, Ontario on her own to Toronto, where she began singing at open-mic nights, a journey that in 1997 led to a meeting with the president of EMI Publishing Canada, whom she charmed so well during their first meeting that without hearing her sing a single note he was moved to set up and finance recording sessions with Doc, a guitarist and studio engineer. Their debut album, Breath from Another, was released to critical acclaim in 1998 and is widely seen as one of the more accessible albums of the trip-hop genre.
Though she remained active following the moderate success of the debut album, featuring on tracks by such artists as Nelly Furtado and The Black Eyed Peas, it would take over 7 years for a proper follow-up to be released (due to a confluence of factors that included a lengthy creative process, the closure of the WORK record label and marketing delays) in the form of 2005's Wikked Lil Grrrls, an album that crossed genre boundaries with its heavy debt to jazz and hip-hop. The album was preceded in 2004 by a pair of EPs, The O.G. Bitch Remixes (with the title song reaching Number 1 on the Billboard Dance Chart) and We R In Need of a Musical Revolution, which served as a preview of the full length album.
After the release of Wikked Lil Grrrls, Esthero devoted an increasing amount of time to songwriting and production, with her work featuring on albums by Brandy and Kanye West (most prominently on West's single Love Lockdown).
2012 saw the release of Esthero's third full-length album, Everything is Expensive (Universal Music Canada), preceded by the release of Never Gonna Let You Go as the lead single and video. The album was partially funded through a campaign on PledgeMusic in which backers could choose from exclusives such as artwork by the singer. Everything is Expensive debuted on Billboard's Heatseeker chart at #13.

Never Gonna Let You Go
Esthero Lyrics
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
Baby I don't wanna break your legs
But I do what I gotta just to make you stay
And I I'd hunt ya down you ever run'd away from me
I got a pocket full of medicines
And a, a closet big enough to hide you in
So come on baby, wont you come?
I'm gonna count to three
'Cause
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
So who's that lady I just saw you with?
You say it was your sister but your full of shit
And I, I won't hear another word of it this time
(Not this time)
So let me tell you what we gonna do
Be true to me baby, I'll be true to you
Think fast player 'cause your life is on the line
And I don't wanna let you go
'Cause
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
Is there a problem, did I hear you right?
You say your handcuffs are a little tight
What's wrong now? Man you used to love this game
You should have listened when I told you to treat me right
Now you'd be lucky if you make it through the night
All this work for nothing baby, can't you see?
Wrap your heart up in my fragile state of mind
Didn't have to end this way but you told a lie
(And I don't wanna let you)
Go
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
I don't wanna let you go
I don't wanna let you go
No
No
Oh

I've never in my life made music with the intention of it being disposable. I put my heart into everything I do. Just because i wasn't weeping into the microphone in the studio and singing whole notes about some torturous love affair scribbled on the pages of my journal doesn't mean it's not art. Let a bitch write a fun song. There's tons of muso nerd stuff happening within the song, btw, but at the end of the day, you don't like it, cool with me. I didn't make it for you.

Esthero is so underrated!

One of my favorite voices. Esthero's first album is still one of my faves of all time! More tunes!!!

I've been listening to Esthero for half my life. It takes too long for albums to come out but when they do, I'm always happy.

This song is amazing! Can't wait for the album to come out! :)

funny story about 'That Girl' - I was basically strong armed into putting it on the first album. I thought it was corny, too pop for me at the time. Luckily, I don't feel the pressure to top it because it was never one of my favourites, and definitely not where i'd set the bar for myself. Also, I don't make music with the intention of 'topping' myself - i just express what's in my heart and head at the time. best. e

Definitely too much time between albums, Esthero! So happy to hear your finally releasing another - sounds great!

It's so awesome to hear more from Esthero. Her music was always so intense and intricate, I really enjoyed the trip she took me on. This tune is awesome, the riff beats me over the head and the lyrics are dark, I love the imagery.
