He and Clark continued to collaborate on Bandstand reunion concerts long after the TV show ended.
By 1959, Picariello was singing using the stage name, Freddy Cannon. He was also called "Boom Boom" because of his thundering musical renditions and the "Cannon" name. From 1959 through the early 60s, Cannon had three Top Ten hit:
Palisades Park
Tallahassee Lassie (A song written by Cannon's mother. It was also the first of 22 songs which appeared on the Billboard Charts for Cannon.)
Way Down Yonder in New Orleans
On June 24, 1966, Cannon played himself and performed one of his own songs during the final episode of the teen soap opera "Never Too Young." The role of Cannon was played by David Julian Hirsh in George Clooney's 2003 film, "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.'
As of 2006, Cannon was a resident of Tarzana, California, and continued performing in concert.

Palisades Park
Freddy Cannon Lyrics
Last night I took a walk after dark
A swingin' place called Palisades Park
To have some fun and see what I could see
That's where the girls are
I took a ride on a shoot the chute
That girl I sat beside was awful cute
And after while she was holdin' hands with me
My heart was flyin' up like a rocket ship
Down like a roller coaster
Back like a loop the loop
And around like a merry go round
We ate and ate at a hot dog stand
We danced around to a rockin' band
And when I could, I gave that girl a hug
In the tunnel of love
You'll never know how great a kiss can feel
When you stop at the top of a ferris wheel
When I fell in love down at Palisades Park
We ate and ate at a hot dog stand
We danced around to a rockin' band
And when I could, I gave that girl a hug
In the tunnel of love
You'll never know how great a kiss can feel
When you stop at the top of a ferris wheel
When I fell in love down at Palisades Park
Down at Palisades Park
You know it's Palisades Park
Down at Palisades Park

I happen to have been born before 1950 and I love this music. Palisades Park played the night before I left to go to Vietnam in 1965. I love almost all old rock and roll music. I don’t have many years left but I will die listening to music from that era.

I was only born in 1987 (35yo) but i literally grew up in the basement of a victorian mansion where my great grandfather built a bar and full kitchen to entertain guests, and got a 1949 wurlitzer (or whatever it was) jukebox he bought from a shutdown soda shop in downtown dayton ohio. And it was full...full of all the doo wop hits! A and B sides, only thing was the arm would pick up the record, but would not drop it, the access panel was open in back, so you just gave it a gentle push, and all the hits were there from 1956 to 1962, thats then they closed the 'pop shop' im literally the only 35yo who knows the words to this song, lmao!

I met Freddy Cannon in 1979. I was a teenager playing in one of his opening bands, at a labor day event in Frankfort KY. Super nice guy. They played Palisades park twice because it was, in his words "too short by today's standards". Good times.
As of May 2021, he's still going strong at 80+. Go, Boom Boom man!

wow that must be amazing playing for the band!! And thanks for the info that he is still alive, may he live longer without suffering. I'm only 18 and I love this song so much. You're very lucky to live through before the 21st century; now seems so miserable.
