Um, I just wanted to say, "I love you"
And you're amazing and I care about you a lot
Alright, bye
I'm slick and sweet, uh, I'm a treat
Vitamin C you dose to me, straight Dopamine
Hypotheses, you'll part the sea to be with me
Sellin' me like I'm a summer breeze
I'ma drive for you, die for you
Put me in a octagon, I'll fight for you
Cry for you, lie for you
Put me under oath any time
Wish that I could take this off
Like an orange peel upon my thoughts
Hide away, hide away
Take my feelings and just take a break, take a break
Wish that I was orange juice
Take a sip of me and you
Bittersweet, bittersweet
On cavities, cavities
I can make a mango (mango)
Like a motherfucking mango (mango)
Talk your ear off like I'm Van Gogh, Van Gogh
But if I taste you, I just, I just can't breath
Let go, lose everything around me
I'm the sweetest bitch you'll ever meet
Don't overthink, I'm your sunny B
Wanna make this sunrise with me (together)
Wish that I could take this off
Like an orange peel upon my thoughts
Hide away, hide away
Take my feelings and just take a break, take a break
Wish that I was orange juice
Take a sip of me and you
Bittersweet, bittersweet
On cavities, cavities
Hey
Wish that I could take this off
Like an orange peel upon my thoughts
Hide away, hide away
Take my feelings and just take a break, take a break
Wish that I was orange juice
Take a sip of me and you
Bittersweet, bittersweet
On cavities, cavities
Hey
The opening lines of Gayle's song "Orange Peel" sound like a voicemail or message one person would leave to check on someone they are close to. The rest of the song seems to be an expression of the singer's emotions towards this person. Gayle begins by describing herself as "slick and sweet" and a "treat" and compares the person's effect on her to vitamin C and dopamine, the feel-good chemical in the brain. She then goes on to say that the person is so important to her that they would "part the sea to be with me" and that she feels like the person is "sellin' me like I'm a summer breeze." In the chorus, Gayle expresses a desire to hide away and take a break from her own feelings, using the metaphor of an orange peel that she wishes she could remove from her thoughts. She continues to say that she wishes she was "orange juice" because that would take away the bitterness of her emotions and they could be enjoyed like a sweet drink.
Gayle's use of metaphor throughout the song is striking. At first, the song seems to be about someone who is sweet and easy-going, but as it progresses, it becomes clear that the singer is struggling with her emotions and desires a respite from them. The orange metaphor runs through the song and is used to convey the idea of sweetness mixed with bitterness, much like life itself. Gayle's vocal performance is soulful and blends well with the electronic beats in the background. The song's catchy chorus and lyrics make it a memorable addition to Gayle's growing discography.
