A couple days later, on May 22, she posted another snippet of the same track on TikTok, this time with a video saying she was “tired” and that her label wouldn’t let her release this song that she loved unless it went viral on the app.
On the same day, Halsey went on Instagram Live and mentioned the label didn’t want to put the first version of the song out because it was slow and emotional, so she reworked the track with Max Martin and shot a music video for it, directed by Alev, and is only waiting for the approval to put it out. She also mentioned wanted this to be her first big commercial song in years because she felt really confident in it, and the song means so much to her.
Another snippet was released on TikTok on 31 May. Halsey announced that the song would be releasing on June 9, with the video coming out on June 10. She also joked about how she’d go back to using TikTok for “her real plan”: “using witchcraft to take over the world”.
