Hogwash have amazingly been doing their thing for almost 10 years now and they're a band who probably won't have come up on your radar before. They're based in Paris, France, and play a ballsy brand of pop-punk influenced by the late 90s Epitaph/Fat Wreck bands. Indeed, opening track 'This Is Not A Method' has an intro lifted right from the NOFX big book of skate punk riffs. This record is 12 tracks of foot-on-the-monitor pop-punk goodness. The band excel at vocal harmonies and they're used brilliantly throughout. And if you like riffs? Well you'll love Hogwash as each song has about three killer guitar parts - 'The Fall' even has some amazing lead bass parts.
My only criticism is that this album does tend to sound similar when listening to it all in one go. The No Use For A Name-isms start to creep in (I think NUFAN are a killer band with killer songs but not one killer album) by the time you get to 'Waffles' and you start to believe you've heard a song before. Take each song on it's own and they're all well performed and great fun, but listen to the album as a whole and it all sounds a bit familiar. Still, this is a really fun album, a blast from the past, with lots of big sounding melodies and harmonies. Certainly one of the best pop-punk records from mainland Europe in the last few years.
