Killing Floor
Howlin' Wolf Lyrics

I should have quit you, a long time ago
I should have quit you, babe, long time ago
I should have quit you, and went on to Mexico
If I had-a followed my first mind
If I had-a followed my first mind
I'd been gone, since my second time

I shoulda went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me
I shoulda went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me
But no, I was foolin' with ya, baby, I let ya put me on the killin' floor
Lord knows, I shoulda been gone
Lord knows, I shoulda been gone
And I wouldn't have been here, down on the killin' floor
Yeah

Everyone is posting the 1964 original lyrics which are incorrect for this version,
Here are the correct lyrics:

I shoulda quit you a long time ago,
I shoulda quit you babe a long time ago,
I shoulda quit you, pretty babe,
Then went on to Mexico.

Well, if I’d had followed my right mind,
If I’d had followed my right mind,
I’d have been on the border my second time.

If I had went home when my best friend come at me,
If I had went home when my best friend come at me,
Lord I wouldn’t be here tonight down on the killing floor.

If I had went home when my friend come at me,
If I had went home when my best friend come at me,
I wouldn’t be here tonight down on the killing floor.

God knows I shoulda went home.
God knows I shoulda went home.
And I wouldn’t be here tonight down on the killin’ floor.

Well, alright.

Great comment ! That is how I discovered him. My friends neighbor used to blast his music and it was all good. Howlinwas a favorite in 1970

@John Byars No doubt. Howlin Wolf was the inspiration to essentially rock & blues. The foundation. When some musicians were great, they, at best, plagiarized him. Jimi said this him after he offered to hire him: "No thank you, Mr. Wolf. But I admire you and the blues. You guys are 100 percent. Beautiful, man.”
