"Our Endless Numbered Days" is the second full-length album from Iron & Wine. Released on March 23, 2004, it was the first non-solo effort by Sam Beam under his Iron & Wine moniker, and was recorded in a professional studio, giving it a more polished and produced sound than "The Creek Drank The Cradle", which Beam recorded at home. Although it added band members other than Sam Beam, the focus was still on acoustic instruments.

On Your Wings
Iron & Wine Lyrics
God, there is gold hidden deep in the ground
God, there's a hangman that wants to come around
How we rise when we're born
Like the ravens in the corn
On their wings, on our knees
Crawling careless from the sea
God give us love in the time that we have
God, there guns growing out of our bones
God, every road takes us farther from home
All these men that you made
How we wither in the shade
Of your trees, on your wings
We are carried to the sea
God give us love in the time that we have

Iron and Wine was my last GREAT MUSICAL DISCOVERY. This was back in (2015), if I'm not mistaken.
IAMX(2005), Modest Mouse(2006), MGMT(2006), and Brandi Carlile(2007) had previously gained that status.
For me, even though Modest Mouse is my #1 Favorite Band of All Time, all 5 of them have had a PROFOUND impact on me that I am soo very thankful for.
One of my favorite experiences is putting them away for a certain amount of time, purposefully or accidentally(naturally) and coming back to them months later.
It's almost like rediscovering them all over.
I don't know why I'm writing about this on this song, on Iron and Wine, specifically...
Well actually, yeah I do. This song. It's just so goddamned...perfect? Interesting? Unique? For me, for this song in particular...it's mostly about the SOUND...
...But I was vividly reminded, by the indescribable sound, and the indescribable feeling it drew up in me, how special Iron and Wine is...and that it currently holds the place, that I previously mentioned, of my last Great Musical Discovery :) (and makes me hungry for my next one).
And most of these bands songs result in a similar reaction.
Quite possibly my favorite song by Iron and Wine would be:
Upwards Over The Mountain
Quite possibly my favorite lyric from it being:
"Mother don't worry, I got some money I saved for the weekend..." Idk, so simple, so effective.

Beautiful song. The beat drop is amazing. Was surprised this was in the show Impulse. Was used well.

2022 and this song still sounds fresh

People shit on The Shepherd's Dog for being overly political, but this song that I will admit, is quite good, gets a pass. Why?
