It is notable for its Egyptian theme displayed in the album art, as well in the title track's musical style. It contains a musical re-telling of Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner", which uses pieces of the original poem as lyrics, and was, for a long time, the longest Iron Maiden song at a length of 13 minutes and 38 seconds (before the band released the "The Book of Souls" album in 2015, featuring the 18-minute epic "Empire of the Clouds"). The album is also notable amongst the band's albums as being the first album to feature the same lineup as the previous one.
"2 Minutes to Midnight" and "Aces High" were released as singles, the former being a staple in nearly all of the band's concert tours.
World Slavery Tour was the tour supporting the album.

Iron Maiden Lyrics
There goes the siren that warns of the air raid
There comes the sound of the guns sending flak
Out for the scramble, we've got to get airborne
Got to get up for the coming attack
Jump in the cockpit and start up the engines
Remove all the wheel blocks, there's no time to waste
Gathering speed as we head down the runway
Got to get airborne before it's too late
Running (running), scrambling (scrambling), flying (flying)
Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving), going in again
Running (running), scrambling (scrambling), flying (flying)
Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving)
Run
Live to fly
Fly to live
Do or die
Won't you run?
Live to fly
Fly to live
Aces high
Move in to fire at the mainstream of bombers
Let off a sharp burst and then turn away
Roll over, spin 'round to come in behind them
Move to their blindsides and firing again
Bandits at eight o'clock move in behind us
Ten ME-109s out of the sun
Ascending and turning our spitfires to face them
Heading straight for them, I press down my guns
Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving)
Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving), going in again
Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving)
Rolling (rolling), turning (turning), diving (diving)
Run
Live to fly
Fly to live
Do or die
Won't you run?
Live to fly
Fly to live
Aces high

Corriendo, combatiendo, volando
rodando, volteando, clavando
Volviendo a entrar de nuevo
corriendo, combatiendo, volando
rodando, volteando, clavando

That bass playing is excellent. Steve Harris is a bass maniac.
Tiago Tanno
I agree but all the members are on the same level - as a drummer I look at nicko mcbrain and his technique is extremely difficult to follow even over time everyone in the band is increasingly polished

Iron maiden is a good history teacher.
Isn't it?

Bruce Dickinson actually has a degree in History and is now a History Professor.
True fact, look it up.
Yeah and he was in the military as a fighter pilot.
As they say write about what you know.
He's the real deal people!
EMMA BIANCA LAURA SILVA RAMOS
I agree!!!!

@Aditya Pandey Well, your thoughts so whatever. Did I say there's something wrong in celebrating certain historical figures and events? Their lyrics are simple and their songs are mediocre overall. Their discography is like some bad version of The Trooper written over and over again. Boring.

@Johnny Hash "Just take a battle and turn it into a glorifying spew of words"
laughs in The Price of a Mile, Great War, The Final Solution, A Lifetime of War, Uprising, Hearts of Iron, Future of Warfare, Wehrmacht
Also, nothing wrong with celebrating the heroes that fought in those brutal wars. They do not shy away from touching controversial topics either. I usually try to respect the other's opinion as much as possible, but this one was the single shittiest take on Sabaton.
