Well, they forgot this world keeps spinning
And with each new day
I can feel a change in everything
And as the surface breaks, reflections fade
But in some ways, they remain the same
And as my mind begins to spread its wings
There's no stopping curiosity
I want to turn the whole thing upside down
I'll find the things they say just can't be found
I'll share this love I find with everyone
We'll sing and dance to Mother Nature's songs
I don't want this feeling to go away
Who's to say I can't do everything
Well, I can try
And as I roll along, I begin to find
Things aren't always just what they seem
I want to turn the whole thing upside down
I'll find the things they say just can't be found
I'll share this love I find with everyone
We'll sing and dance to Mother Nature's songs
This world keeps spinning and there's no time to waste
Well, it all keeps spinning, spinning 'round and 'round and
Upside down
Who's to say what's impossible and can't be found?
I don't want this feeling to go away
Please don't go away
Please don't go away
Please don't go away
Is this how it's supposed to be?
Is this how it's supposed to be?
Jack Johnson's song "Upside Down" is a whimsical and optimistic tune about the possibilities that life holds when you approach it with an open mind and heart. The lyrics encourage the listener to embrace their curiosity and to see the world through a different lens. The opening lines, "Who's to say what's impossible / Well, they forgot this world keeps spinning," set the tone for the song by challenging conventional wisdom and reminding us that life is full of surprises.
As the song progresses, Johnson explores the idea that our perceptions of the world are constantly shifting and changing, and that what we see on the surface is often just a reflection of something deeper. He sings, "And as the surface breaks, reflections fade / But in some ways, they remain the same," reminding us that even when things seem to be in flux, there are constants that anchor us and keep us grounded.
The chorus of the song is a celebration of the joy and wonder that can be found in exploring the unexpected. Johnson sings, "I want to turn the whole thing upside down / I'll find the things they say just can't be found / I'll share this love I find with everyone / We'll sing and dance to Mother Nature's songs," urging the listener to embrace their own sense of adventure and to find beauty in the world around them.
Overall, "Upside Down" is a song that encourages us to let go of our preconceived notions and to approach life with a sense of awe and wonder. It reminds us that even when things seem uncertain or chaotic, there is always something new and exciting waiting to be discovered.
