His vocal and guitar sound fit each other perfectly. If he had sung his songs with a clean, fancy voice, that wouldn't be as beautiful. He's black, and blackness is what one hears in his playing and singing, it's blues heritage. At the same time he had sophisticated, jazz-like instrumental interludes. A master, definitely.

He created an elusive guitar tone that many have tried to copy but can't. I believe touring for years ( he toured 2 years straight I believe ) would do it to a person. radio was still budding, the only way to hear a song was live. Jimi would've died from multiple other problems he was having with all linked to the ( now commonly known ) sex drugs and rock and roll lifestyle.

i will always say this when people debate who is the greatest guitarist of all time. Its always subjective and based on personal tastes. I've heard a lot of people say that Hendrix is overrated. I do believe that he is and always will be the most creative and innovative guitarist of all time

The level of concentration when performing his newer songs was obvious, he really wanted to play and present them to the public as best he could. Unlike the older songs (which are still great by the way) but it's obvious he was fed up with them most of the time.

There were a lot of debates over "Electric Ladyland". Including the album artwork.
There were discussions and arguments with Chas Chandler over the production. Chas wanted another album based on the early (first two) albums, while Hendrix wanted to expand to more things. Most of Electric Ladyland was tracked in NYC, which ended up being a two record set. It was possible supposed to be longer.
Word is that the record company (Warner Brothers/Reprise) chopped it down and did some edits that Jimi didn't like or approve of.

The song is about his relationship with Devon Wilson (like Dolly Dagger and other songs written at this time). The lines about "You know you hook my girlfriend

I was trying to slap it out of her hand" are about Devon's heroin addiction that she tried to get Jimi into and his desire to be free of the mind games that she used to put him through.
