Suo Gan
John Williams Lyrics

Huna blentyn, ar fy mynwes,
Clyd a chynnes ydyw hon;
Breichiau mam syn dyn am danat,
Cariad mam sy dan fry mron.
Ni chaiff dim amharu'th gyntun,
Ni wna undyn ???? thi gam;
Huna'n dawel annwyl blentyn,
Huna'n fwyn ar fron dy fam.

Huna'n dawel heno huna,
Huna'n fwyn, y tlws ei lun;
Pam yr wyt yn awr yn gwenu,
Gwanu'n dirion yn dy hun?
Ai angylion fry s????n gwenu
Arnat ti yn gwenu'n llon,
Tithau'n gwenu'n ????l dan huno,
Huno'n dawel ar fy mron?

Paid ag ofni, dim ond deilen,
Gura, gura ar y dd????r;
Paid ag ofni ton fach unig.
Sua, sua ar lan y m????r;
Huna blentyn, nid ces yma
Ddim i roddi iti fraw;
Gwena'n dawel yn fy mynwes
Ar yr engyl gwynion draw.

72 Virgin Goats

@Jen W Sleep child upon my bosom,
It is cosy and warm;
Mother's arms are tight around you,
A mother's love is in my breast;
Nothing shall disturb your slumber,
Nobody will do you harm;
Sleep in peace, dear child,
Sleep quietly on your mother's breast.

Sleep peacefully tonight, sleep;
Gently sleep, my lovely;
Why are you now smiling,
Smiling gently in your sleep?
Are angels above smiling on you,
As you smile cheerfully,
Smiling back and sleeping,
Sleeping quietly on my breast?

Do not fear, it is nothing but a leaf
Beating, beating on the door;
Do not fear, only a small wave
Murmurs, murmurs on the seashore;
Sleep child, there's nothing here
Nothing to give you fright;
Smile quietly in my bosom,
On the blessed angels yonder.

The song is actually an old Welsh lullaby which makes more sense considering that Jim is British. Incredible song....

This song is one of the most powerful ever done for an opening of a movie. Even a decade after first seeing this movie, the visuals are burned in my memory of the destruction Jim was living in all around him , yet life for foreigners like him was seperated from the reality. I have the movie on BluRay, and have had it for years, but still to this day, I can't watch it because of the emotions it brings up in me. One day, I'll have to watch it, and put up with my daughter telling me to quit my Crying. She doesn't know how personally a movie can hit home.

Quarantined during Holy Week would provide ample opportunities for you and your daughter to discuss the complexities of the characters in the film. What people have done in times of economic devastation and how your family would strive to act if faced with similarly difficult choices.
