On May 14, 2008, MelodicRock.com reported that Journey and Frontiers Records agreed to add "an exclusive original bonus track, "Let It Take You Back", a mid-tempo rocker, to the European release to close the album.
Revelation was recorded throughout early 2008 at The Plant in Sausalito, California by John Neff.
The album was released in the U.S. on June 3, 2008 by Nomota LLC (Schon's personal recording label) exclusively through Walmart, and in Europe on June 6, 2008 through Frontiers Records. In addition, Wal-Mart also released a limited-edition ZVUE 1-gigabyte MP3 player pre-loaded with discs 1–2 of Revelation.
The album was produced by Kevin Shirley, who also produced Trial by Fire and Arrival.
On its first week of release, Revelation sold over 105,000 copies, marking a 1,400% increase over the first week sales of the band's 2005 release Generations. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Independent Albums chart, No. 2 on Billboard Rock Album chart, and No. 5 on the Billboard 200, where it remained for 42 weeks. The album was not only a huge success in the United States, but also reached the charts in 9 different countries.
Revelation was nominated for Album of the Year in Classic Rock Magazine's annual poll.
On December 18, 2008, the album was certified platinum by the RIAA, making it Journey's first such certification since their 1996 album Trial by Fire. According to Nielsen Soundscan, Revelation has sold more than 1,000,000 copies in the U.S. as of November 2009.
Never Walk Away
Journey Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So young in love,
They couldn't wait.
Said their vows,
Had to run away.
Suddenly,
They felt their lives
Had changed.
They believed...
Their hearts were strong.
Just to find
They couldn't get along.
The dream they shared...
Had slowly come undone.
(Chorus)
Will she go
Or will she stay?
Fool herself for
One more day.
Don't give up.
Never walk away.
Love's the promise...
That he made.
In his heart...
It still remains.
Don't give up.
Never walk away.
(Verse 2)
They had to meet...
Somewhere... halfway...
Heart to heart and
Face to face.
Compromise...
A price they had to pay.
Cared enough...
To stand her ground.
Screamed and shouted
Till the walls came down.
Worth the fight
To see a brand new day.
(Chorus)
Will she go
Or will she stay?
Fool herself for one more day.
Don't give up.
Never walk away.
Love's the promise that he made.
In his heart...
It still remains.
Don't give up.
Never walk away.
(Chorus)
Will she go
Or will she stay?
Fool herself for one more day.
Don't give up.
Never walk away.
Love's the promise that he made.
In his heart...
It still remains.
Don't give up.
Never walk away.
Never walk away.
Ooohhh...
Never walk away!
The lyrics to Journey's "Never Walk Away" tell the story of a couple who got married when they were young and in love, but soon after realized that their relationship was not as strong as they thought it would be. The dream they shared of a perfect life together slowly unraveled, and they found themselves at a crossroads: should she stay or should she go? The song encourages them not to give up and to hold onto the promise of love that was made.
The first verse sets the scene of the young couple who runs away to get married, only to find that their hearts are not strong enough to withstand the challenges of their relationship. The chorus asks the question whether she will stay or go, questioning whether she will continue to fool herself for one more day. The bridge of the song describes the couple trying to find common ground and meet each other halfway, ultimately realizing that love is worth fighting for.
The song is ultimately a message of hope for struggling relationships, encouraging couples to keep pushing forward and not give up on the promise of love. The uplifting melody and guitar riffs give the song an anthemic quality that makes it a popular choice for uplifting playlists and motivational soundtracks.
