Black Eyes
Bradley Cooper Lyrics

Black eyes open wide
It's time to testify
There's no room for life
And everyone's waiting for you

And I'm gone, sitting by the phone
And I'm all alone by the wayside
And I'm gone, sitting by the phone
And I'm all alone by the wayside

By the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside

Too far gone and I'm by the phone
And I'm all alone and I'm off alone
By the wayside
By the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
By the wayside

I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside

Black eyes open wide
It's time to testify
There's no room for life
And everyone's waiting for you
Everyone's looking at you
Everyone's looking at you
Everyone's looking for you
Everyone's waiting for you

"Black Eyes"
Bradley Cooper (From 'A Star Is Born (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)')

[Chorus 1]
Black eyes open wide
It’s time to testify
There’s no room for lies
And everyone’s waitin' for you

[Verse 1]
And I'm gone sittin' by the phone and I'm all alone by the wayside
And I'm gone sittin' by the phone and I'm all alone by the wayside

[Refrain]
By the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside

[Bridge]
Too far gone and I'm by the phone
And I'm all alone and I'm awful lonely by the wayside

[Refrain]
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside
I'm by the wayside

By the wayside
By the wayside
By the wayside

I'm by the wayside
By the wayside
By the wayside

[Chorus 2]
Black eyes open wide
It’s time to testify
There’s no room for lies
And everyone’s waitin' for you
Everyone's lookin' at you
Everyone's lookin' at you
Everyone’s waiting for you
Everyone’s waiting for you

This movie was initially based on the book "The Skyrocket" by Adela Rogers St. Johns and was initially a silent film in the 1920's. Her father, Earl Rogers was a leading Attorney in Southern California and one of the most noted in the State who died from alcoholism. All of the movies (I think) used alcoholism except for the Streisand version who used drug addiction as the cause of death. By the way, Adela Rogers St. Johns father, Earl Rogers was the Attorney that the later Perry Mason novels and popular television show was based upon.
Then after talking film came into being This story was made again and called "What Price Hollywood" in the early 1930's starring Constance Bennett and directed by George Cukor.
Again it was made in 1937 with Fredric March and Janet Gaynor.
Then again about 1952 with Judy Garland and James Mason directed by George Cukor. The Premiere was held at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood, and was one of the biggest star studded Premiere's in Hollywood History.
Then in the 1970's Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson made it again using drug addiction in lieu of alcoholism.
Now it has been made again with Lady Ga Ga.

This movie has been made 6 times representing various time periods, but yet the same basic story line.

Adela Rogers St. Johns I feel sure had no idea her initial novel of "The Skyrocket" would have had such a long and endearing run.
Who knows, it just may be made again?

This song in the cinema is the closest thing to being at a real concert caught on film especially the sound.

Cody Garcia

Felt the same way when I saw this with my wife. Holy shit it was electric!

TD Riehm

i agree. I think this is live though.

They filmed this at a real concert. The crowd was told that Cooper was going to come up and they were going to film this for the film. This was that. He played live the best he could and the crowd apparently really liked it but they still dubbed his performance on the guitar do to a few mistakes he made but the crowd was legit.

That my friend is called ATMOS. See how from the opening until he gets in the car? Once he gets in and closes the door it is like a vacum sucks all the sound out.

This man literally taught himself to be a musician for the roll. This is a mock rock concert and I see and hear no difference between this and a real one. He’s unbelievable. This song stands alone as a real rock song against any other.
