D… Read Full Bio ↴Laura Fygi (born August 27, 1955, in Amsterdam) is a Dutch singer.
Daughter to a Dutch father, a manager at Philips, and an Egyptian mother, a belly dancer by profession, Fygi lived with her parents in South America for the first eight years of her life.
Between 1987 and 1991, she was a member of popular Dutch girl-band, Centerfold. During performances, the trio dressed themselves in sexy lingerie. They had hits in the Netherlands and all over Europe, and were equally famous in Japan.
In 1991, the ladies of Centerfold stopped performing and Fygi (together with Rowan Moore) started a band called The Backlot. After one performance in Dutch theatre Paradiso, an album was expected, but Mercury Records had already asked Fygi to make a solo album. This first album, Introducing Laura Fygi, comprised mostly jazz numbers, and was produced by Ruud Jacobs. In the album, Fygi was accompanied by celebrated Belgian musician Toots Thielemans.
Good Morning Heartache

You old gloomy sight
Good morning heartache
Thought we said goodbye last night
I turned and tossed until it seems you have gone
But here you are with the dawn
Wish I could forget you, but you're here to stay
It seems I met you
When my love went away
Now everyday it seems I'm saying to you
Good morning heartache what's new
Stop haunting me now
Can't shake you no how
Just leave me alone
I've got those Monday blues
Straight to Sunday blues
Good morning heartache
Here we go again
Good morning heartache
You're the one
Who knows me well
Might as well get use to you hanging around
Good morning heartache
Sit down
Laura Fygi's song Good Morning Heartache is a poignant expression of the pain and frustration that heartbreak can bring. The opening lines of the song, "Good morning heartache, you old gloomy sight," set the tone for the rest of the lyrics. The singer is addressing her own heartache, personifying it almost as a separate entity that she must face every day. She acknowledges that she thought she had said goodbye to her heartache the night before, but it has returned with the dawn.
The second verse describes the singer's struggle to forget her heartache, but it is a futile effort. "Wish I could forget you, but you're here to stay," she laments. She acknowledges that her heartache arrived when her love went away, and now it seems like every day she is saying "Good morning heartache, what's new?" The chorus reinforces the idea that her heartache is a constant presence in her life, that she cannot shake: "Stop haunting me now, can't shake you no how, just leave me alone."
The final verse sees the singer resigned to her heartache, acknowledging that it's a part of her and she will have to learn to live with it. "Might as well get used to you hanging around," she concludes. The closing line, "Good morning heartache, sit down," is perhaps the most powerful of the song, as it conveys the sense that the singer is weary from the constant emotional pain she is experiencing.
