Man's World
Marina Lyrics

Cheeks are rosy like a Boucher cherub
I'm a strawberry soda, raise my lashes to heaven
Stars in my hair running like a waterfall
Clouds in the whites of our eyes, we saw it all
Burnt me at the stake, you thought I was a witch
Centuries ago, now you just call me a bitch

Mother nature's dying, nobody's keepin' score
I don't wanna live in a man's world anymore
I don't wanna live in a man's world anymore
Anymore

Marilyn's bungalow, it's number seven
In the pink palace where men made her legend
Owned by a sheik who killed thousands of gay men
I guess that's why he bought the campest hotel in LA then

Mother nature's dying, nobody's keepin' score
I don't wanna live in a man's world anymore
I don't wanna live in a man's world anymore

If you have a mother
Daughter or a friend
Maybe it is time
Time you comprehend
The world that you live in
Ain't the same one as them
So don't punish me
For not bein' a man

Spring appears when the time is right
Women are violets coming to light
Don't underestimate the makin' of life
The planet has a funny way of stoppin' a fight

Mother nature's dying, nobody's keepin' score
I don't wanna live in a man's world anymore
I don't wanna live in a man's world anymore

If you have a mother
Daughter or a friend
Maybe it is time
Time you comprehend
The world that you live in
Ain't the same one as them
So don't punish me
'Cause I'm not a man
So don't punish me
'Cause I'm not a man
'Cause I'm not a man

@Aaron
Didn't we spend our earliest times killing each other though? And the whole social hierarchy thing came pretty quickly once we started building civilisation. How did we get here in the first place if it's not natural? Everything has a starting point. It seems like people have been at that for longer than anyone has been around to control us. I feel like it happens because obviously we see the world through only our own eyes and our brains are naturally going to bend towards self preservation.

That being said, we can still sacrifice ourselves for others or help others at our own detriment because we have a sense of wanting to do the right thing but I don't think that we were born with that. "the right thing" is very much subjective to me. Though I do agree that people can be born with compassion (some much more than others) but that doesn't necessarily mean that we haven't got greed in us either. I just can't see how people seem to think that "good" and "evil" are objective truths. We probably only decided all that stuff to stop people from killing each other so it doesn't seem to me like it's an actual truth, just another creation.

Of course, it's probably for the best at the end of the day, our species probably wouldn't have survived if these things didn't exist, but I just can't understand how it's something others live by when it's not a universal truth. I'm not saying people can't, I just don't get it.

I do agree that art imitates life and art can very much impact people. What I have a problem with is people shoving it in without doing the writing work or whatever to make it actually make sense in the context of the story. Or to shove diversity in just for points with... a certain part of the diversity movement who probably don't actually care, but only wish to hold a fake moral high ground or find something to complain about. Twitter is a harrowing land.

But basically I have a problem with those who sacrifice the very nature of the medium in order to shove in real life politics. Then, when it's inevitably not enough, they'll complain and demand more. They irritate me in a way I can't quite describe. Some movies can be studies on the real world, but not all of them have to be. If every story has to have a checklist of political quotas to fill, then art becomes just another means of pushing their ideology. Can't people just have fun with a movie without being told what to think? I'm going on a tangent though, so I'll probably keep it there before I explode and because this was really long, sorry.
