Whole Lotta Woman
by Marvin Rainwater

It takes a whole lotta lovin'
Just to keep my baby happy
It takes a whole lotta kissin'
And a whole lotta holdin' her hand
It takes a whole lotta lovin'
Just to keep my baby happy
'Cause she's a whole lotta woman
And she's gotta have a whole lotta man

Well when she loves me
She loves me so hard
She almost make-a me mad
And when she kiss me
Well she don't kiss me
I know I've been had

It takes a whole lotta lovin'
Just to keep my baby happy
It takes a whole lotta kissin'
And a whole lotta holdin' her hand
It takes a whole lotta lovin'
Just to keep my baby happy
Cause she's a whole lotta woman
And she's gotta have a whole lotta man

I always thought that the backing band on this recording was fantastic. Just found out - The song was recorded in December 1957 at the Bradley Film and Recording Studio in Nashville, Tennessee, United States. Session musicians were Hank Garland (guitar), Grady Martin (guitar), Floyd "Lightnin'" Chance (bass), Buddy Harman (drums), and Floyd Cramer (piano). Nashville's 'A' team as set up by Chet Atkins. Phenomenal sound!

I've heard it said that Brian Rankin, an English guitar player. was so impressed that he used the guitarist's Christian name and used the singer's Christian name as his surname.

I first heard this record at a local dance hall, I liked it so much that I went and bought the album. I think it was in 1957 when I was sixteen. Unfortunately I no longer have the album, but Marvin was one of the artists who started my love of Country Music.
R.I.P.Marvin.Thanks for the posting,Regards Raybec.

Good memories! As a 16-year-old in 1958 I took a bus trip from Teesside to the Empire Theatre in Newcastle-on-Tyne to see Marvin's concert. He was a full-blooded Cherokee, I believe, and wore his Indian dress, including headband and feather! Met him backstage afterwards, and told him I was planning to emigrate to America. Still have his business card!
