They formed in the early 1990's in Chicago as a group of musicians with no intent or plan for becoming an official band. They began playing open mic nights in the city only to find that a series of bootlegs had increased in popularity. The band was less than a year old when the band took to the studio to record their first disc "parking karma". In 2006 the band, with the help of former Grateful Dead lyricyst John Perry Barlow, released their 5th studio album titled "Barlow Shanghai".
Today Mr. Blotto remains one of the most distinctive improvisational regional bands. The group continues to tour, but rarely leaves the Chicago area.
Major influences for the band included The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and Widespread Panic to name a few.
