That you're my every dream
Yet you're afraid each thing I do
Is just some evil scheme
A memory from your lonesome past
Keeps us so far apart
Why can't I free your doubtful mind
And melt your cold, cold heart
Another love before my time
Made your heart sad an' blue
And so my heart is paying now
For things, I didn't do
In anger, unkind words are said
That make the teardrops start
Why can't I free your doubtful mind
And melt your cold, cold heart
There was a time when I believed
That you belonged to me
But now I know your heart is shackled
To a memory
The more I learn to care for you
The more we drift apart
Why can't I free your doubtful mind
And melt your cold, cold heart, ah, ah
In Norah Jones's song Cold Cold Heart, the narrator sings about her struggles to gain the trust of her lover. The lyrics paint a picture of a relationship that is torn apart by the past. The narrator laments that she has tried so hard to show her love and commitment to her lover, but he always doubts her intentions. She believes that this mistrust stems from a memory of a past lover who hurt him, and now he is afraid to let go of the past and open up to her.
The narrator is frustrated and saddened by the fact that her love is not enough to melt his "cold, cold heart." She is paying for the mistakes of his past lover, even though she has not committed any wrongs. This angers her, and she longs for him to open up to her and trust her fully. The lyrics indicate that the more she tries to care for him, the more they drift apart.

on The Nearness of You
The Nearness Of You - Camille Thurman -Lyrics
Its not the pale moon that excites me
That thrills and delights me, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
It isn't your sweet conversation
That brings this sensation, oh no
Its just the nearness of you
When you're in my arms
And I feel you so close to me
All my wildest dreams do come true
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness of you
Saxophone Musical Interlude
I need no soft lights to enchant me
If you'll only grant me
The right to hold you ever so tight
And to feel in the night
The nearness, the nearness of you
