Rag'n'Bone Man Lyrics
When I heard that sound
When the walls came down
I was thinking about you
About you
When my skin grows old
When my breath runs cold
I'll be thinking about you
About you
Seconds from my heart
A bullet from the dark
Helpless, I surrender
Shackled by your love
Holding me like this
With poison on your lips
Only when it's over
The silence hits so hard
'Cause it was almost love, it was almost love
It was almost love, it was almost love
When I heard that sound
When the walls came down
I was thinking about you
About you
When my skin grows old
When my breath runs cold
I'll be thinking about you
About you
When I run out of air to breathe
It's your ghost I see
I'll be thinking about you, about you
It was almost love, it was almost
We bleed ourselves in vain
How tragic is this game?
Turn around, I'm holding on to someone
But the love is gone
Carrying the load, with wings that feel like stone
Knowing that we nearly fell so far now
It's hard to tell
Yeah we came so close, it was almost love
It was almost love, it was almost love
When I heard that sound
When the walls came down
I was thinking about you
About you
When my skin grows old
When my breath runs cold
I'll be thinking about you
About you
When I run out of air to breathe
It's your ghost I see
I'll be thinking about you, about you
While I reached out for your hand
When the walls were caving in
When I see you on the other side
We can try all over again
When I heard that sound
When the walls came down
I was thinking about you
About you
When my skin grows old
When my breath runs cold
I'll be thinking about you
About you
When I run out of air to breathe
It's your ghost I see
I'll be thinking about you, about you
'Cause it was almost love, it was almost love
It was almost love, it was almost love

For as long as I live, this song will bring uncontrollable tears to me.
Years ago at my best friend's wedding , there was a beautiful young lady called Maria, who had a crush on me. I really liked her and she really was incredibly stunning. We definitely had chemistry with one another and she was the most beautiful woman with such a big heart on her. Our priorities in life were different at the time, as she was going travelling and I was just being a typical dumb 21 year old not knowing what to do with life.
Many years passed and I thought to myself, maybe I can try make contact with Maria again on Facebook. See what she's up to, and maybe even meet again if possible.
Two days after trying to trace her, my friend called me up out of the blue and asked me if I remember Maria at his wedding. This felt like an unbelievable coincidence of timing as I had only been trying to trace her a few days prior. But, this was not to be a good call. I knew instantly something was wrong. He then went on to tell me the news that he'd found out Maria had died in a car accident 2 days ago. I was speechless, numb and couldn't believe or even process what had just been said to me. I felt devastated, and thought to myself that I should have tried harder to keep in contact with her. She had sadly died in a car accident that was completely avoidable. The driver of the car was speeding at 100mph, and lost control on a wet road. He somehow survived but, Maria as the passenger sadly died.
Following this harrowing news, I fell to pieces and couldn't grasp why such a wonderful human being like her had to be taken away.
This song had just been released around the time, and it honestly speaks heavy volumes to the feeling of grief when someone you felt for is gone. Most of the lyrics are spot on, particularly lines like "Seconds from my heart, A bullet from the dark". For me that was the thinking about Maria again after the passing years, to then suddenly get the devasting phonecall out of nowhere "bullet from the dark".
"It was almost love" goes without saying. We could have perhaps been together, but didn't go that way at the time.
Then the chorus "When I heard that sound,
When the walls came down,
I was thinking about you".
When I heard the news, the emotional walls came down, and I couldn't stop thinking about her.
I still think about Maria all the time even now. I miss her so much. So this song will always have a special place in my heart, even if it does make me emotionally choke up.
Love you always Maria.

I'm 71 and whenever my old ass friends say that they don't make good music anymore this is one of the many young artists I direct them to. The music is out there you just have the ears to hear it. There's a scripture in the book of Ephesians that says "Let him who has the ears to hear what the Spirit has to say to the congregation."
