Ferguson made it all the way to the finals where she dueted with her idol Christina Aguilera performing 'Beautiful'. Ferguson placed second behind winner Matt Cardle, and the same week was signed to Syco Music owned by Sony Music Entertainment. As Songfacts reports, her debut single, Nothing's Real But Love, was released in November 2011, a week before Ferguson's debut album, Heaven, was made available.
Ferguson is a qualified legal secretary, having studied at Hugh Baird College, Bootle. She has previously unsuccessfully auditioned for The X Factor and for P. Diddy's Starmaker in New York but in 2010 she got the chance she had been waiting for and got through to the audition process. She sang "A Change Is Gonna Come" during her initial audition. At her bootcamp audition, she sang "Like a Star" to which Cowell said "That is a recording voice!" and Nicole Scherzinger said, "I told you first time I saw her, she is our generation’s songbird." She sang "Fireflies" at the judges houses stage. For the first live show she sang "Teardrops", in the second live show she sang "Feeling Good" and in the third live show she sang "Why Don't You Do Right?". In the fifth live show, Ferguson received a standing ovation from Simon and Cheryl following her performance of "Make You Feel My Love". In the following episode, Ferguson received another standing ovation from Dannii and Cheryl after singing "Candle in the Wind".
Ferguson's second studio album, Freedom, was released in December 2013.
In 2015 Ferguson released her third studio album Lady Sings the Blues covering a number of jazz classics made famous by Billie Holiday.
She released the single "Uncrazy" on 1 December 2017, a dance song, which moves away from Ferguson's usual style of music.
On 8 May 2020, a single entitled "Nothing Left But Family", and featuring Nile Rodgers, was released.

Rebecca Ferguson Lyrics
I wish that you could see who I really am
It's tough being a woman in love with an unkind man
'Cause baby I'd give you the world, in fact, I already do
And how do you repay that?
Talk to me like I'm just a regular tramp tryna took you over
Have you even have a clue, what I gave up just to be here?
Serve you with your steak and beer?
Baby that's for love (baby that's for love)
Baby that's for real (baby that's for real)
And all I've ever wanted was for your loving arms
To wrap themselves around me and say
Hey girl, you're the prettiest thing my eyes have ever seen
Come and lay your bones down with me
Come and lay your bones down with me
Hey girl, you're the prettiest thing my heart has ever known
Come and lay your bones down with me
Come and lay your bones down
I'm not tryna play the victim, don't wanna go head to head
But boy I shouldn't have to stand in the mirror convincing myself I'm fair
Maybe that's your job to do
And maybe you should say I'm beautiful
Why do you wanna watch the set when I'm layin' right next to you in my own room?
I feel like you don't even know I'm there
But I put a brush through my hair for you
Run my fingertips over your back real smooth
Boy I need love (boy I need love)
I don't get enough (I don't get enough)
And all I've ever wanted was for your loving arms
To wrap themselves around me and say
Hey girl, you're the prettiest thing my eyes have ever seen
Come and lay your bones down with me
Come and lay your bones down with me
Hey girl, you're the prettiest thing my heart has ever known
Come and lay your bones down with me
Come and lay your bones down
I look you dead in the eyes and say I love you
In the eyes and say I want you
In the eyes and say this is what I'm asking for
How can you sit and stare at the wall?
Do you even like me at all?
Start talking 'bout making it better, it ain't that complicated
I just wanna see your arms around me, baby
Come and lay your bones down
Come and lay your bones down
Hey girl, you're the prettiest thing my eyes have ever seen
Come and lay your bones down with me
Come and lay your bones down with me (bones down)
Hey girl, you're the prettiest thing my heart has ever known
Come and lay your bones down with me
Come and lay your bones down
Oh, I look you dead in the eyes and say I love you
In the eyes and say I want you
In the eyes and say this is what I'm asking for
Ooh, come and lay your bones down
Let me lay my bones down with you

beejaybath it's always interesting to see where people end up after shows like the x factor, it's cool how big she is now
beejaybath
ps not that I know the thirties.
beejaybath
Loved her since she was on the x factor. That voice of hers - right back to the thirties... but a bit better sound these days
Miriam Carr
beejaybath that's right, she turned HIM down because she wouldn't be allowed to sing Strange Fruit.
