"40 in Los Angeles" is the 4th single (and 5th song) from the forthcoming album "A Handsome Nostalgia". The song is a stripped down piano ballad about Rod turning each decade of his life in different places (both figuratively and literally).

The song opens with tape noise from 4-track recordings Rod made as a teenager in the 90s and a hooky sing-a-long "oh-oh" vocal melody. The track features acoustic piano and sparse, ambient musical ornamentation. The verses are subdued and reflective and explodes into a soaring, anthemic chorus about each decade of his life being in a different city or state. The bridge of the song lists possible outcomes of a yet-to-be midlife crisis.
