“Myth of the Heart” – described by the L.A. Times as an “intensely soulful debut album” – was released in August of 2010 to critical acclaim from reviewers in “The Wall Street Journal” and other national publications. It features twelve original songs performed by Smith and acclaimed musicians Jay Bellerose (drums), Marc Ribot (guitar) and Dennis Crouch (bass). The album was produced by Emile Kelman under the guidance of T-Bone Burnett.
Bellerose, who has performed with Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, and Beck, says “Sahara is blessed with an otherworldly quality and sophistication rarely seen in a young artist. It was a great pleasure to work with her.” Burnett calls Sahara “the best new artist I’ve heard in years.”
“Sahara’s smoky voice, bluesy folk sound and lifetime love of Leonard Cohen and Tom Waits have finally been captured on her debut album,” according to her myspace bio.
Sahara Smith is a young singer-songwriter from Wimberly, just outside of Austin, Texas. She first received national recognition at the age of 15 when she placed second in A Prairie Home Companion's 'Talent from 12-20' contest.
