The Heart Wants What It Wants

(What the heart wants)
(What the heart wants)
You got me sippin' on something
I can't compare to nothing
I've ever known, I'm hoping
That after this fever I'll survive
I know I'm acting a bit crazy
Strung out, a little bit hazy
Hand over heart, I'm praying
That I'm gonna make it out alive
The bed's getting cold and you're not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I'm not alive until you call
And I'll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice 'cause I won't hear
You might be right, but I don't care
There's a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
You got me scattered in pieces
Shining like stars and screaming
Lighting me up like Venus
But then you disappear and make me wait
And every second's like torture
Heroin drip, no more so
Finding a way to let go
Baby, baby, no, I can't escape
The bed's getting cold and you're not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I'm not alive until you call
And I'll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice 'cause I won't hear
You might be right, but I don't care
There's a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
This is a modern fairy tale
No happy endings
No wind in our sails
But I can't imagine a life without
Breathless moments
Breaking me down, down, down, down
The bed's getting cold and you're not here
The future that we hold is so unclear
But I'm not alive until you call
And I'll bet the odds against it all
Save your advice 'cause I won't hear
You might be right, but I don't care
There's a million reasons why I should give you up
But the heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants, baby
It wants what it wants, baby
It wants what it wants
It wants what it wants
The heart wants what it wants, baby
It wants what it wants
In Selena Gomez's song The Heart Wants What It Wants, the chorus repeats the line "the heart wants what it wants." This line is a representation of the internal struggle that the singer is facing, torn between her head telling her to move on and her heart wanting to hold on to a past love. She seems to be addicted to the feeling of being in love and is willing to endure the pain and uncertainty that comes with it because she believes that this love is worth it.
Throughout the verses, Gomez describes the rollercoaster of emotions that she's experiencing. She's sipping on something unknown, and she's hoping that she'll survive her fever. She's acting crazy and a little bit hazy, but she's praying that she'll make it out alive. She's scattered in pieces, shining like stars and screaming, as she's waiting for her love to come back. And despite the million reasons why she should give him up, she can't help but follow her heart and feel what it wants to feel.
The song's lyrics express a painful but relatable situation in which someone is so in love with another person that they'll endure any amount of pain or uncertainty to feel that love. It's an emotional and honest representation of how the heart's wants can sometimes overpower the mind's logic.
