(2) Steve Lacy (July 23, 1934 – June 4, 2004), born Steven Norman Lackritz in New York City, was an American jazz saxophonist and composer recognized as one of the important players of soprano saxophone. Coming to prominence in the 1950s as a progressive dixieland musician, Lacy went on to a long and prolific career. He worked extensively in experimental jazz and to a lesser extent in free improvisation, but Lacy's music was typically melodic and tightly structured. Lacy also became a highly distinctive composer, with compositions often built out of little more than a single questioning phrase, repeated several times.
After Lacy was diagnosed with cancer in August 2003, he continued playing and teaching until weeks before his death on June 4, 2004 at the age of 69.

Steve Lacy
Donchano, you′re beautiful
You're different, unusual
I love your style, so original
Seem so unreal, like you′re mythical
Donchano, Donchano
Donchano, I know you know
Baby I know that you don't see yourself as one of them
But honestly girl I believe that you're 100 out of 10
You′ve been going through some things (I want you to feel better)
If you′re feeling cold (here put on my sweater)
But when you're feeling down (I hope you can remember)
I hope you can remember this
Donchano, you′re beautiful
You're different, unusual
I love your style, so original
Seem so unreal, like you′re mythical
Donchano, Donchano
Donchano, I know you know
In "Donchano," Steve Lacy emphasizes the beauty and uniqueness of the person he's singing to. The repetition of the name "Donchano" throughout the song emphasizes the personal connection between Lacy and the person he's singing to. Lacy highlights how different and unusual this person's style is and how it seems unreal to him, almost like they're a mythical creature. This person doesn't see themselves as part of the crowd, but Lacy sees them as extraordinary; he believes that they're not just a 10 out of 10, but a 100 out of 10.
The second verse highlights Lacy's concern for Donchano's emotional well-being. He acknowledges that they may be going through some personal struggles and offers his support. When they're feeling cold, he offers them his sweater, and when they're feeling down, he wants them to remember how special they are.
Overall, "Donchano" is a celebration of individuality, highlighting the beauty of being unique and different. It's a reminder to recognize our own worth and to appreciate those who stand out from the crowd.

Just made a batch this morning with my great grandmothers iron and cone. I use cardamom in my mix. We fill ours with homemade whip cream and rice and a touch of vanilla and top with currant jam.
