They have released 10 albums, with newer albums consisting primarily of original work. The albums vary in style from Southern Gospel to Contemporary Christian, but keep the love of the music and the lyrical content shining through each one.
Sweet Deliverance was originally formed in the late 1970's as an A Cappella, southern gospel style quartet, with Kevin Allsup as the 1st tenor. Three LPs were released during this time, with a few changes along the way, including having Kevin's younger brother substituting as the deep bass.
As years went by, Bob still had a heart for the music, recruiting his good friend Kevin Percival to fill the hole left by the other Kevin. This second group of Kevin Percival, Gary Ferguson, Dave McPeak, and Bob Allsup went on to record three albums, and began the transition from southern gospel standards to performing original music.
With Kevin and Bob leading the way, everyone in the group began to write music. Beginning with the Take His Hand album, each album would be composed almost entirely of new, original music. Although Dave left and Russ Wuton took his place beginning with the Album "Let It Flow", the quality and writing didn't stop.
Their reputation grew and their 8th album was produced in conjunction with the Acappella company and released on Word Records. The Acappella Company says "They do it better than most folks", and their version of "Poor Wayfaring Stranger" won a CASA award in 1997 for the Gospel category.
They didn't stop there, however. Releasing "Walk On" and their latest offering, "You're My Rock" show a more varied style, and show that they don't appear to be stopping any time soon.
In 2009 they released two albums entitled "The Early Years", which re-released the music from Sweet Deliverance's first 4 albums on CD for the first time.
