Moonlight Drive
The Doors Lyrics

Let's swim to the moon, uh-huh
Let's climb through the tide
Penetrate the evenin' that the
City sleeps to hide
Let's swim out tonight, love
It's our turn to try
Parked beside the ocean on our
Moonlight drive

Let's swim to the moon, uh-huh
Let's climb through the tide
Surrender to the waiting worlds
That lap against our side
Nothin' left open and no
Time to decide
We've stepped into a river on our
Moonlight drive

Let's swim to the moon
Let's climb through the tide
You reach your hand to hold me
But I can't be your guide
Easy, I love you as I
Watch you glide
Falling through wet forests on our
Moonlight drive, baby
Moonlight drive

Come on, baby, gonna take a little ride, down
Down by the ocean side, gonna get real close
Get real tight
Baby gonna drown tonight
Goin' down, down, down

my ex-boyfriend used to sing this to me. we were just teenagers then. 20 years went by and we reconnected as friends. June 15th,2015, he died in his sleep of a heroin overdose. one of the last times we hung out we sang it together. No music, just a capella. This song is bittersweet to me now. I don't hear Jim's voice, I hear Nelson's.
Rest in Love my friend. You will always be forever in my heart.

Morrison was brilliant no doubt....but he was part of The Doors. Let's not forget Ray and his great classical piano talent turned rock. And John Densmore's uniquely punctuating drum style. And those dreamy notes Robby played whether with his super slinky strings or funky glass slide.

Niccolò Frangione

No doubt about it. Every one of them was a top level musician. There's no weak point in doors ' team

@unstablecreature88 . I'm impressed with your knowledge about the inner dynamics of the group. All I know is that I fell in love with the band when their first album came out and they remain one of my very favorites rock bands of all time. If I could only listen to just one rock group for the rest of my life, it would be The Doors.

@I Hate Trump it was a deliberate consensus to credit all songs as written and performed by The Doors because they all agreed each member was irreplaceable in the conception of the music. To be fair, Jim wrote the majority of lyrics but Robbie actually wrote their arguably biggest hit, "Light My Fire". Personally, I fall into the belief that The Doors were one of the bands that could not be comprised of any other people than the original 4 guys. Change any one member out, and they wouldn't have caught fire such as they did. It was perfect synergy with perfect timing. Not a lot of bands can pull off an organ so masterfully. A different vocalist than Jim's tattered silk throat and haughty and haunting delivery.... could have sank their chances readily. There are a finite number of bands that simply can only be, the founding members. The Beatles are another example. Certain things in the world are magic. Unexplainable, undefinable, unsurpassed. What luck to be living at a time when so many breathtaking examples are available to us. 🔥 #outhereontheperimetertherearenostars
