Gypsy Woman
The Impressions Lyrics

From nowhere through a caravan
Around the campfire light
A lovely woman in motion
With hair as dark as night
Her eyes were like that of a cat in the dark
That hypnotized me with love

She was a gypsy woman,
She was a gypsy woman

She danced around and round to a guitar melody
From the fire her face was all aglow
How she enchanted me
Oh, how I'd like to hold her near
And kiss and forever whisper in her ear

I love you, gypsy woman
I love you, gypsy woman

All through the caravan
She was dancing with all the men
Waiting for the rising sun
Everyone was having fun
I hate to see the lady go
Knowing she'll never know
That I love her, I love her

She was a gypsy woman
A gypsy woman, a gypsy woman, a gypsy woman

"I choose to love you in silence…
For in silence I find no rejection,

I choose to love you in loneliness…
For in loneliness no one owns you but me,

I choose to adore you from a distance…
For distance will shield me from pain,

I choose to kiss you in the wind…
For the wind is gentler than my lips,

I choose to hold you in my dreams…
For in my dreams, you have no end.”- RUMI مولانا I Love You

Curtis Mayfield's haunting tenor gives me chills to this day - truly a genius who gifted us this rare gem.

In the words of Wayne and Garth, we're not worthy.

This band defined an era in music. Curtis Mayfield was a true genius.

I can't agree with you more. Curtis and the "Impressions" gave us so much pleasure. Their music brought us together and now look at us.

Season 4 of The Wire brought this song back to my mind. I am a 60's child who learned how to read and play music during that era. Thank God I did because the musicians I run into today have NO idea of who Curtis Mayfield was. The average young person who saw The Wire doesn't know who is singing and wrote that song.

Beautiful song.  I love the calypso beat.  Curtis Mayfield was in a league all his own.
