Alice
The Sisters of Mercy Lyrics

Alice pressed against the wall
(Live version is 'She stands pressed...')
So she can see the door
In case the laughing strangers crawl and
Crush the petals on the floor

Alice in her party dress
She thanks you kindly
So serene
She needs you like she needs her tranqs
To tell her that the world is clean
To promise her a definition
Tell her where the rain will fall
Tell her where the sun shines bright
And tell her she can have it all
Today
Today

Pass the crystal spread the Tarot
In illusion comfort lies
The safest way the straight and narrow
No confusion no surprise

Alice in her party dressed to kill
She the thanks you turns away
She needs you like she needs needs her pills
To tell her that the world's okay
To promise her a definition
Tell her where the rain will fall
Tell her where the sun shines bright
And tell her she can have it all
Today
Today

Alice
Don't give it way

Lyrics

Alice pressed
Against the wall
So she can see the door
In case the laughing
Strangers crawl and
Crush the petals on the floor

Alice in her party dress
She thanks you kindly
So serene
She needs you like
She needs her tranqs
To tell her that
The world is clean
To promise her a definition
Tell her where
The rain will fall
Tell her where
The sun shines bright
And tell her she
Can have it all
Today
Today

Pass the crystal
Spread the Tarot
In illusion comfort lies
The safest way the
Straight and narrow
No confusion
No surprise

Alice in her party
Dressed to kill
She the thanks
You turns away
Needs you like
She needs her pills
To tell her that
The world's okay
To promise her a definition
Tell her where
The rain will fall
Tell her where
The sun shines bright
And tell her she
Can have it all
Today
Today

Alice
Don't give it away

North East

I am a songwriter who was born and raised in the middle of nowhere central Maine in 1988. If I like something I openly like it, if I don't then I don't. A far cry from the heavy metal puritan I was in middle school (couldn't live with the hypocrisy in myself) where everything needed technical proficiency.

I always identified with the darker. Gothic Romance literature, period pieces set in the Victorian era (was always deeply into history anyways) but I wear denim jeans, denim jacket, used to have an '88 Camaro, and I've worked in paper mills, canoe factories, etc. I always identified with the "goth" sub culture but it's not something I wore because the fashion, though awesome, wasn't me.

My wife is 17 years older than me and grew up in Boston. She used to hang out with Anal Cunt, GG Alin (before all the shit flinging), Mark Sandman of Morphine on occasion. She used to sneak into clubs underage like I've seen most of you talking about .

I was already listening to odd stuff like Idiot Flesh, The Residents, and Woven hand but for some reason the proto-type post punk bands were a blind spot for me (probably cause I was never into punk and they shared similar monikers).

The biggest impact my wife has had on my life has been a few trips to the record shop resulting in first exposure to three musical acts via "Peek-A-Boo" by Siousxie and the Banshees, "Vision Thing" by Sister's of Mercy and "Never For Ever" by Kate Bush.

I'd heard a few songs from each before via youtube videos, but listening to these albums in full for the first time shifted various aspects with how I identified with myself as a person and in artistic expression.

Man I love all the wee stories from 50-60 Yr old people hearing it for the first time in the 80s, your stories are appreciated from us younger folks!!

Tracy Cope

Glad you appreciate this, there was nothing like the atmosphere the Sisters, Cure , etc gave us in the eighties- it was not just about the music , it was a life style that will be never be recreated again - simply mesmerising

When I was a child I didn't like my name.. Now the more I grow up the more I like it

Alice

@Wenn RB thank you! 💜 If you ever do be prepared, because everytime they'll ask you what's your name, you're going to hear them say "oh! AlIcE iN WoNdErLaNd!!" When you're a child it's funny, but after hearing it every single time it gets a little boring 😅😂

Wenn RB

I love your Name. If I had The chance i would change mine for yours.

Alice

@Vincent Sander that's true... It's just funny to have my name as a title of a song
