NOT QUITE BOHEMIAN:
(CD/LP Kitchen Records/Pool Music 2010)
+++Album Review by John Carroll+++
What we have with this album is a sterling collection of assured, original, well crafted pop songs; a veritable master-class in the arts of song writing, production and musicianship. But even more remarkable is the fact that it is almost entirely the work of a single individual, the immensely talented Tibursky. Here, delivered in a voice rich and dark as molasses, he offers an album of passion and brooding conviction without ever sacrificing his innate pop sensibility. It is this element that elevates these songs way above anything similar that’s been released in the past twelve months: A hugely impressive achievement.
John Carroll, London, Jan 2010
PEEL: A lament for a lost talent that, despite the sadness of its subject matter, is strangely uplifting; a rare and wonderful thing.
PLASTIC JESUS: Urges us to rail against all false prophets.
NOT QUITE BOHEMIAN: Here we have a tale of someone trying – as we all do at times – to find our identity, our place in the world, all beautifully couched in a quite wonderful chorus.
TRAVEL: A dream of escape to a place free from the daily grind.
THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE: Lost and looking for a way out.
KEEP ON ROCKIN’: Then finding a way out with this great rallying call.
CLOSER: A plea for love, for one last bite of the cherry before both parties move on, possibly never to meet again.
NICOTINE: How feelings such as love can be just as addictive as the dreaded weed.
ONCE AGAIN: A plea from the heart, played over a gently tinkling piano.
