Between 2007 and 2011, Tinashe was a member of the girl group the Stunners. Following their disbandment, she released the positively-reviewed self-recorded mixtapes In Case We Die (2012) and Reverie (2012). Following their success, Tinashe signed with RCA Records and released her third mixtape, Black Water (2013). Her debut single, "2 On" (featuring Schoolboy Q; produced by Mustard), reached number one on the Rhythmic airplay chart, and peaked at number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100.[4] Her debut studio album, Aquarius (2014), was noted by music critics as one of the most "solid" debuts by a new female artist in years. The album garnered her nominations for Soul Train and BET Awards.[5] Her collaboration with Snakehips and Chance the Rapper, "All My Friends", won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song in 2016.[6] The same year, Tinashe appeared on Britney Spears' single "Slumber Party", which topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. Tinashe's second studio album, Nightride (2016), reached number eight on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart in the US. Joyride (2018), her third studio album, peaked at number 58 on the Billboard 200 chart and reached number six on the UK R&B Albums chart. Uh, ay what
I don't need the lovin' nope
So don't make this somethin'
See, I'm nothin' like a girlfriend, no
I'm not like someone I'm supposed to be
And I just want some company, company
And I just need some company, company
I just need some company, company
I just need some company, company
Hey, yeah, shout out to my booty
I'm straight up with this one boy, I know it
I call it when I stop feelin' alone
I want it and sometimes, see, I don't
I don't need no problems with nobody
I know how to get that, I don't follow me
I just need a moment, fuck and leave
You could say you had it all, no strings
I don't need the lovin' nope
So don't make this somethin'
See, I'm nothin' like a girlfriend, no
I'm not like someone I'm supposed to be
And I just want some company, company
And I just need some company, company
I just need some company, company
I just need some company, company
Companions, but we keep it even lower
I never ever been the type to ever just show up
And you can't ever be the type of guy to just show up
Treat it like a meet and greet and then we go up
I don't need no problems with nobody
I know how to get that, unfollow me
I just need a moment, fuck and leave
You could say you had it all, no strings
Had it all
You could say you had it all
You could say you had it all
You could say you had it all
You could say you had it all
You could say you had it all
You could say you had it all
All babe
You're just my little side thing
Just a little sweet fling
Baby you don't have to buy things
I just want the high, supply me
I don't need the lovin' nope
So don't make this somethin'
See, I'm nothin' like a girlfriend, no
I'm not like someone I'm supposed to be
And I just want some company, company
And I just need some company, company
I just need some company, company
I just need some company, company
Da, da, da, I just need
I just need some company, company
I just need some company
The lyrics of Tinashe's song "Company" depict a woman who desires a relationship without any attachments or expectations. She asserts that she does not require love, nor does she want to be recognized as a girlfriend. Instead, she desires the presence of a man to fulfill her physical needs and companionship. The lyrics imply that the singer is not interested in a traditional monogamous relationship and desires to keep things casual.
The lyrics also suggest that the singer is confident in her sexuality and knows exactly what she wants.
