The soundtrack for season one of the History Channel's Vikings begins appropriately with "If I Had a Heart," the icy opening cut from Swedish electro-goth-pop songstress' Fever Ray's 2009 eponymous debut, which accompanies the historical drama's opening titles. What follows are 37 cues from Tudors and Borgias composer Trevor Morris' lush score, which combines wintry electronica, Nordic folk, and traditional orchestral elements. As evocative as Morris' work is here, and it works wonders with the series' widescreen visuals, it can make for an exhaustingly atmospheric listen on its own, but fans of the enigmatic Ragnar Lodbrok and his warrior brethren will find this collection to be the perfect tonic to ease the discomfort experienced between seasons.
